It sounds that there is some loose contact with the connection wires between its LCD control panel circuit board [T'Con] and LCD panel. Re-seat them once and check. If you wish to get more details, check this site. Pull up older posts there. Check the site with patience, as it has over 2350 posts now. All are related to electronic equipment repair help. In most cases the standby light might blink with different rapidity to indicate a fault relevant to the processor. It is possible that most of these indicate that there are errors in the processing section . Since there is a possible short or leak in the circuit the output driver section can take in huge current to trip the SMPS or from advice from the micro processor. Remove the power plugs and make sure that high voltage sections are discharged of the potential stored in capacitors. Look for visible signs of leak or of busted capacitors. Look for bulged capacitors or damaged components- burnt or busted. Use a multimeter to check the continuity or shorting in components, if so detach from circuit and test . If the voltage builds up and the set power ON and then shuts up then the suspected section must be checked in detail.

The processor must have the +5 voltage to the function properly , the +B and secondary voltages also must be checked to infer the fault. Trace with caution and in running through the signal path , circuit trail.

The problem of your unit is the CCFL - cold cathode fluorescent light. if the both ends of the ccfl is already have a dark spot it must be replace or sometimes the holder of the ccfl is only loosed. Or try to consult a technician for sure, to do some actual test to your unit if you are not familiar in electronic parts and to lessen the stress. Good day and best regards.

SOURCE: one side of the tv has a black shadow and then

Disassemble TV, clean all boards from dust, unplug/replug all connectors,
most are really small, be careful, try TV again. Out Same Model TV started off the same, left bottom of screen/shadow when TV was on for awhile, since then has got worst, like 2 shadow boxes showed up, now upon startup, TV is screen is covered w/vertical lines, shut off the TV once or twice and works fine until next startup. If the above does not fix TV, look at the top of TV from Back Panel Off, Top-Center is a board called T-Con board, replace it. All the info for this board replacement is on the Bar-Code Laabel and Board itself, ie; T370HW02 VC CNTRL BD, 37T04-COG, FX-5546T03C22 (orC21)-964-0000NMP-00629-03 this board is Mgr By AU Optronics. GoTo For Parts/Pricing, they have 180 warranty on parts, aprox $45.00 for T-Con . http://www.shopjimmy.com/auo-55-46t03-c22-t-con-board.htm

Do the flashlight test on the screen. If it passes the test then the issue lies with the inverter board that powers the backlights.

Half the screen is blacking out.

Does your TV support "picture-in-picture" (two independent windows, and a "split" screen) ? Reconfigure it to "maximize" one of the two windows.

Sanyo model number DP46849 half the screen is black

This is a problem with the ribbon cables taking the signal to the various parts of the panel. The cable is bonded at the factory. That bonding has failed in one part of the screen.

Unfortunately, the bonding can't be fixed with just a blob of glue. If the ribbon cable is removed then it will never work again. The connections are too fine.

The answer is to use some neoprene tubing to put light pressure on the connection. This is done by opening the case and inserting the neoprene like a round wedge.

Why my 42" sanyo DP42841 HDTV LCD SCREEN GOES BLACK ON THE LEFT SIDE?

That sounds like a faulty LCD panel tab. The only true fix is to replace the screen. This usually isn't cost effective.

My sanyo flat screen is fading on the right side but after awhile in clears up

Most of these sets use two boards that drive (each) one half of the screen---a problem can be a bad board or cable or plug connections and can escalate as time goes on.
