Formatting any drive will erase your data completely, so take the backup of your drive data and store it other than this drive and then you can format your drive by right click and then choose the option format.

You can also try to defragment your d drive by right click - properties - tools - defragment now, to get some space.

Or you can delete the unnecessary files from your drive or transfer it to the other drive.

I have a Verbatim Clon 500GB external hard drive which only holds 4.65 GB; why??

Windows 7Might not be formatted correctly. Check Disc Management under Administrative tools. This will give the true size including space that has not assigned as a partition.

I have a problem with my Local Disk C .

It sounds like you formatted the Utility Partition of the HDD and loaded the OS to that partition. Check disk Management, see if you have both a C: and D: listed for hard drives. If you do, that is the likely answer.
If disk management shows only 1 HDD and a lot of unpartitioned space, then you made a disk partitioning error and will need to remove and repartition the drive then reinstall

Find and check real free space go to my computer and right click your driver letter and click properties it will show what is real ammount of disk. For one 4GB file it must not be problem but for meny little file can take more space besider their sum of capacity is 4GB. At format check correct ammount of data "capacity" is 8GB (7.9) also file system for NTFS or FAT32. FAT cant bear 8GB.

MY C drive Booting drive is 30GB, in side c drive file properties is showing 20GB bt free space is showing 2GB

Its probably formatted not to use the entire space of the disk, is there another partition or "D" drive where your restore/backup stuff is? That could be take up the rest of the space. Hard disks are always described as being a certain size but can be formatted by windows tlo split up the drive into smaller chunks called partitions. Your C drive/partition might be way less then 30Gb therefore only showing up as 22Gb
