New laptops come with a User Guide. What is the Product Number?

This can be found on the white Service Tag, on the bottom of the laptop. P/N = Product Number

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: Slow computer -how to restore a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pro v1000

If the units are running slow, you can do some maintenance on them to speed them up.

First, run defragmenter on both units.(in Safe mode)

Download ScrubXP which will automatically clear your temp, cookies and TIF files.

Download CCleaner and run it.

Run your Anti-virus program: download the free version of AVG. (Great virus protection.)

Other programs to use are SpyBlaster and Winpatrol, all of which are free.
This should help, if you feel that you need to format and restore the units, youcan do so. But try this first.

SOURCE: Need to set R3000 Compacq laptop to factory settings.

Compaq? Oh, then you are going to have a hard disk partition with the recovery files, so you don't need the disks. You have made it, that's great, because in case you cannot access the hard disk, you cannot initiate a recovery without ordering recovery CDs for your model from HP.

There are a number of ways to do it.

Try pressing F9 at startup (when the Compaq or HP logo shows up), and if it doesn't work, see the key for System Recovery at the bottom of the screen. It will recover, just follow the instructions on the screen.

Also, you can insert the first disk anytime, or boot from it when you start the PC up.

Or, you can use the Recovery Manager software in the PC that is pre-installed and it will help you to do a System Recovery from the files on your recovery partition.

Please rate this answer, I badly need it.

SOURCE: I need to restore my laptop to the factory

Hello
First
what disk do you have?
one should be OS disk and a other should be drivers and software or a recovery disk.
if you have a label recovery disk start with that.
if you have an OS + driver disk start with the os disk.

put it in cd and press a key when it says so.
here is a very good guide to follow
after you installed the os then run the driver recovery disk just click next, its not that hard.

What they don't tell you when those are sold is that you should get yourself an external USB cd/dvd drive. Thses work very well and are slim line products. If you have a spare laptop cd/dvd drive, Ebay sells the housing and usb cable to convert an internal laptop drive into a USB external.

Have a new, full installation GENUINE copy, (Disk), of the Windows that is on your computer?

Put it in your optical drive, and when asked, perform a Repair. (Non-Destructive Installation)

No? Well you know HP Support provides a recovery disk. It is free, but the shipping, and handling is not.

Look at the bottom of the laptop, in the white Service Tag. P/N = Product Number. Write it down. You will need it for the nice HP representative. (S/N = Serial Number)

In the USA call 1-800-474-6836. (24 hours a day, 7 days a week)
The shipping and handling is $17 for a 5 to 7 day ship, $24 for a 2 to 3 day ship.

For other countries use HP Worldwide Support,

If recovery disks do not work you are SOL Hp will not help you if your unit is past warranty - they will refer you to forum or suggest you get another computer - an HP of course!

Basically you will have to obtain the OS disks for the system of your choice that is compatible with your unit., load it and get the drivers from HP site.

How do i restart my computer so its like new?

You mean restoring the Laptop to factory settings?

You can do that by following tow ways. You can use Recovery Partiotion of your Notebook (if available) and you can use the Recovery Disk (if you have created). Providing you the steps for both....

Restoring to factory settings by Partition:
1.Connect PC to the AC power adapter.
2.Restart the notebook and Press F11 when HP logo appears.
3. Tap the F11 key as soon as the HP logo appears.
4. On the PC recovery window Select "Ok".
5. On the next screen read the system recovery information and Select "Advanced".
6. Select Destructive Recovery and follow on screen instructions.
7. Restart the notebook when prompted.
In case if the Recovery partition is not working, use the recovery disk. If you did not create the recovery disk, then order it online from following HP link....

Recovery disk order page for CQ60-220US (P/N: NB048UA#ABA)
https://warp2.external.hp.com/driver/dr_country_select.asp?Product=515690-002&lang=en&cc=us
If you are not able to open the link....
1. Open an Internet Explorer, type www.hp.com
2. In the search bar, type your Laptop's Product Number (P/N)
3. From the left side, click on 'Software & Driver download'
4. Select Microsoft Windows Vista from drop down
5. Click on + beside Recovery Media then click the link.

Instruction to install from Disk:
1. Insert the disc. Turn off the Notebook. Again turn on the Notebook with Disk inside.
2. Press "ESC" key on keyboard twice.
3. You should find one time boot device option.
4. Select CD/DVD as primary boot device and then hit enter key.
5. Now the installation should start.

Need a recovery disc for Pavilion dv-5 notebook

Hi:
You most likely have a bad hard drive, and a disk set is not going to help you, though you will need it too.
What you need is a new hard drive, a copy of all the drivers for your laptop, which you can download for free from HP. If HP won't send you a copy of the recovery disk, you can use any OEM copy of the same operating system that your laptop has a sticker for, but you won't have all of your programs.

HP System Recovery Stuck at Disk 5

I had this same problem when I was restoring as well. Are these the Recovery Discs you created or did they come with the system? I had to call up HP and tell them the situation. Since you only get one shot at creation of the discs, there is no way to recreate them. They were kind enough to send me their set of discs at no charge. I'm assuming it was because I had done my job of creating the discs as directed, but the system botched the job. Good luck. I'm sure they'll do the same for you.

This is a fairly new laptop, it should have come with either a recovery disk or a recovery partition on the HDD. You should be able to still purchase the recovery media from HP. Have you contacted them?

Recovery partition (including possibility to recover system, applications and drivers separately); Optional re-allocation of recovery partition; Recovery CD/DVD creation tool; Symantec™ Norton Internet Security™ 2008 (60 days live update); Notebook Help & Support

This is a feature of the notebook from the HP support site.

Hello Humanold,

Please check the following recovery steps:

Full recovery by using recovery partition:

1. Reboot the notebook PC.
2. Keep tapping F11 when the Compaq logo displays.
3. When the Recovery Manager appears, click Next.
4. When prompted to use the Microsoft System Restore program, select No and click Next.
5. When prompted to use the System Recovery, select Yes and click Next.
6. Select the option to perform the recovery without backing up files and click Next.
7. Upon completion of the process, recovery will display "The PC Recovery was successfully completed".
The recovery process will return your PC to the factory image.

Full recovery by using recovery disks:

1. Open the disc drive door and turn off the PC.
2. Insert the first Recovery disc in the disc drive and close the door.
3. Press the power button to turn on the PC.
4. The HP Recovery Manager window appears during the boot process.
If the HP Recovery Manager can access the hard drive, a prompt is displayed to backup the user files before continuing the recovery.
If the HP Recovery Manager cannot access the hard drive to fix the system errors, the HP Recovery Manager will overwrite all the data and reconfigure the entire hard drive to its original condition.

5. Follow the prompts to insert any additional recovery discs in the disc drive.

Need 25-character Vista key to buy backups from MS!

Hello John,

Unfortunately none of the PC manufacturers, with the exception of Toshiba and Dell, ship with recovery disks anymore. Instead, you have the option to create recovery disks after you purchase the computer. HP for example, used 3 DVD-R's to create recovery disks. And when you use those discs to recover your system it will revert it back to the way it was when you purchased it. So unfortauntely, the only way to get a set of recovery discs is to purchase them from HP. They cost about $30 on average. And unless you want to just purchase a new full copy of windows, purchasing the recovery discs are the only way to recover your system... legally.

To order HP's discs, just go to their support site at www.hp.com and search for your model number. It will then give you the instructions on how to order your specific discs.
