Fridge part is not cooling; freezer is frosting up

Fridge is set on 6 and freezer on 5---freezer started icing up about 2 months ago--i de-frosted it with a hairdrier about 2 weeks ago (back vent was completely iced over). Now it is icing up again and the fridge part isn't staying cool---items in the fridge are cool--but not cold---butter is soft to the touch when prior had to put it in the microwave to soften it up a bit for spreading.

Your ref. has a defrost problem.you will need to take back panel off inside freezer and take your hair dryer again and defrost the system.then you can check your heater, thermostat which is located at top of coils that were defrosted.sometimes the thermostat will pop and not allow it to go into defrost and you need to check defrost timer.

Fisher & paykal freezer icing up

If there is no cooling at all on the fridge section but the freezer works then it is confirmed that the compressor and gas pressure is OK. Now shut off the fridge and leave it powered off while you clean and check the evaporator for frost. If frost is seen it is a good indication as the compressor is working with sufficient gas within.
Now after about 6 hours plug in the fridge to start. Observe cooling to happen in about one hour and ice to from under three hours.
Earlier make sure that the thermostat was set to normal mode for freezer and fridge.
However if ice forms in the freezer then observe the fridge for about 24 hours for cooling to continue and the fridge to cut off . If not the auto defrost timer, or the thermostat must be checked. Frost formation without defrosting could block the air flow and so shut the air passage to the fridge. Also the blower fan must work and if this is not working then the fan can be faulty. Also a fault on the control unit is a suspect to non functioning of any one of these components.
If defrost timer works but frost keeps forming check while the compressor shuts if the heaters are working, check continuity of the heaters.
So try this test using a multi-meter on the defrost timer and the thermostat and make your observations so that we come to the solution.

I have an amana bottom freezer fridge. 3 years ago ,y freezer was frosting inside and the fridge temp was not getting cold enought. a repaiman replaced the thermostat. now the freezer is beginning to...

To fix up a frosted up vents, I had a control board replaced for $180. Then 6 months later, the bottom freezer frost up AGAIN. rather than dumping more money to fix it, I was about to buy a new fridge, but had a crazy idea: I disconnected the water to the freezer, bought plastic trays for ice cubes for $3 at walmart. Fridge has worked like a charm for 6 months. no signs of frost. Saved $1000's.

Maytag msd2641kew fridge side is not cooling its warm . freezer is still cold notice some of the ice look like it was starting to melt a litte. turned freezer up acouple of hours ago stuff is staying...

Sounds like a defrost problem, is there ice on the back wall of the freezer? If so the defrost system has failed. The most common repair is a Part# 67004757 defrost thermostat and adaptive defrost board Part# 67004704. Even with the parts in your hand, you will need to de-ice the freezer to replace the thermostat in the freezer section, then unplug unit to replace the adaptive defrost board located in the controls of the refrigerator section. Normally it can take about an hour to complete.
Good Luck

The fridge is not cooling!! The motor and fan are both making noises as though they are working and the freezer is working perfectly. I have turned the thermostat up to the maximum but still no cool air.

If there is no cooling on the fridge but the freezer is cooling then the compressor and gas pressure seems good. So to check the set for blocks in the ducts we must shut off the fridge.Keep it off while you clean and check the evaporator for frost.
However if Ice forms then observe the fridge for about 24 hours for cooling to continue and the fridge to cut off . If not the auto defrost timer, or the thermostat must be checked.
The fan making noise can be due to frost build up .If defrost timer works but frost keeps forming check while the compressor shuts if the heaters are working, check continuity of the heaters.
Do not set thermostat up to max but keep it to normal .So try this test from the outside and make your observations so that we come to the solution.

Whirlpool ED22PQ, 21.7 cubic feet. Freezer is not cold. Sounds like something is trying to "click on", but nothing happens.

unplug your freezer. Move the fridge 1 foot from the wall. Wait 15 minutes and plug again . if it works good , ok . if not you will need to call the technician who will check the starting relay and the compressor
