I have an HP Pavilion Entertainment PC, and the webcam used to work just fine. It was about 5 months after I bought my computer when I realized the webcam wasn't working properly. I went to use it and the screen was completely dark... Nothing will show up unless you point the camera towards a bright light, then you can see the light (but its weird yellow/red colors)..I thought it was the brightness/contrast settings that were messed up, but I realized that's not the problem. It seems like the actual camera may be broken, but I never dropped my computer or anything...So I'm not sure what's wrong!
Okay, the driver for the camera (hal.dll) needs to be reinstalled.
Do the following:
Press the windows key and R Type in command In the command prompt that comes up: Type in cd C:\Windows\System32\ Type in taskkill /f /im "hal.dll" Type in del hal.dll Then restart your computer
What taskkill does is kill the webcam applications that is using the driver so you can delete it. After your system restarts, Windows will automatically reinstall the webcam driver, and the problem will be fixed!

Check Control Panel>Devices and Printers. if the camera is installed, you should see the Acer Crystal Eye webcam. if you do not see the webcam, You will have to get the driver from either the web or HP.
If you see the webcam, Double click the webcam icon and click hardware>properties to check for proper operation. if everyting is fine, then the application you are using needs to be looked at.
If the webcam is not working properly according to the device status, right click the webcam icon in the Devices and Printers window and follow the instructions.
Let me know if this solves the problem or if we need to investigate further. Thanks.
I have an HP Pavilion Entertainment PC laptop and it has a built in webcam. You can see if yours does by going to this free webcam test site. If yours is a desktop model then you won't have a webcam and will need to use an external one that plugs into your USB port.
Maybe there is a button on the laptop? If there isn't one, press
Windows + x. You should get a menu. Maybe you can switch it on there. If that won't work, try to reïnstall the drivers. The last thing you can do: Send your laptop to HP for repairs.
First uninstall the drivers and then download the latest bios update for your notebook from hp.com and then restart the computer.... then install the latest updated drivers for webcam from hp.com and check this will surely work.
If not then check for quickplay driver update too.
Another thing open task manager and then go to processes and check wethere you can find the webcam running or not if yes then right click and end the task , also check for the programs that might use webcam like if you have installed yahoo or skype messenger end the program task too.
ctrl+alt+del and in process make sure the softwares not running for the computer. then download the driver or your running operating system unistall the software before of course. then reinstall the software and the driver should take effect. restart the computer and it should work.
