Question about PC Laptops

Toshiba Satellite A300 - no acces to second HD

I had a serious problem with my laptop, related to crcdisk.sys. (vista fails to load) After several hours investigating, I gave up and send my computer to technical service.
Do not ask me why, but they have changed the Main Hard disk and mother board (after a whole month working on it)
The question is that this laptop has 2 hard disks. The main one with a partition for recovery, and d: 250 Gb each.
Now I can see the 2nd hard drive from windows, but I cannot explore or watch the content. However Mcafee Security, is analysing the disk properly and I can wacth the file manes on the screen while scanning.
The only ideas from Toshiba Tech support is send it yo us again. I am afraid to send the computer again to this guys. Maybe they change the screen.
Any idea?
Thanks for your cooperation

    Thanks for that.
The information on this disk will be erased when proceeding as shown?

Okay, the driver for the second hard drive (hal.dll) needs to be reinstalled.

Do the following:

Press the windows key and R
Type in command
In the command prompt that comes up:
Type in cd C:\Windows\System32\
Type in taskkill /f /im "hal.dll"
Type in del hal.dll
Then restart your computer

What taskkill does is kill the second hard drive applications that is using the driver so you can delete it. After your system restarts, Windows will automatically reinstall the second hard drive driver, and the problem will be fixed!

The windows files have been corrupted, I was hoping you might get into safe mode to try a system restore but your system will not allow it. If you can find your recovery disc a clean install is the best way to go. Try www.toshiba.com contact customer support about a replacement recovery disc.

I'm at my wits end with this laptop. Right now I can't get it to start up Windows. Here's some history: March 08 - Purchased from Best Buy as an open box (display) item. July 09 - Laptop was dropped...

I have personally worked on over a dozen of this model, all of which were "Display Models" for some reason, all from either Wal-Mart or Best Buy. The laptop getting dropped probably has nothing to do with it, several models from the last two or three years from both Toshiba and Dell have had major issues with HDDs becoming corrupted or damaged internally for NO reason, but for some other 'strange reason' neither of them will acknowlege these obvious design flaws.
I would think going to some place like Tigerdirect.com and looking for a new one (not a Dell or Toshiba) would be a smart idea- Cut your losses and list that dead one on ebay "As-Is'

I take it you see the hard drive when you boot to vista cd. doing install can you remove partition and then create new partition format and install vista software. have you tried that if so sounds like your hard drive is working and can delete and reset drive partition index. if your crashing in post then you need to push the tab key when toshiba logo appears should switch showing post BIOS boot on screen all text you should try pressing the setup key as soon as you see the num loc light blink on your keyboard the driver is loaded press f2 then tab key to check post boot.
please let me if this helped you.
