Question about GE Profile 26.6 cu. ft. Side-by-Side Refrigerator with Dispenser TFX27PRBWW
The ice chute door opens properly, but doesn't close. From what I've read, it probably needs a new solenoid.
I've removed the plastic cover from the inside of the freezer door. Where do I find this solenoid?
Is it above, buried in all the insulation, or below under the metal plate?
I got help from repairclinic.com , and didn't see any reference to a solenoid. I fixed my GE fridge, its model is #TFX27FJB,,,,Free!!!! The replacement part would have cost 46.60.
On inside of freezer door, behind ice dispenser, there is a panel about 7x9
(plastic) that you can gently pull the tabs free and remove the panel. You will see the mechanical stuff. There are 2 gear like (pulleys) that are in the center area, supposed to be connected by a part that is about 3-5 inches long , like a small wire cable with hook type ends, think it's called "lanyard cable" , mine was broken, so I patched it with some scrap wire,,,one end hooked to one pulley and the other to other pulley(gear). When my ice door quit closing after getting ice, this cable had broken, What I did was find a small wire, to fix the break,, using as much of the original cable as possible, make sure that total length is same as original. Hook one end to one pulley and wrap it around it, it has to be wrapped a certain way, I can't remember counter-clock wise or vise-verso, till it will take up all slack, and just reach and hook to the other. I think it is a spring that opens door, and then the gears turn to close it, that is why it has to be wrapped with no slack.
It cost nothing and it works great now,, the repairclinic.com will show you specs so you can see what you are doing.
I didn't want my food to thaw, so I had a large piece of Styrofoam that I cut to fit in door jam, to keep food safe.
Hope this helps.
