Re: Ethernet controller not installed on XP Professional
The best way to get the drivers you need is to go to www.hp.com and search for your drivers there using the model number for your computer. Of course, this assumes that you can get internet access from somewhere else besides the computer that you are working on. If you don't have another place you can get on the internet, try your local library. Many of those have free internet access. In my experience, the most likely driver for your computer would be either the Broadcom Netextreme or the Intel Gigabit driver. Good Luck & thanks for using Fixya

after that, try again if necessary to install the drivers. If it still fails you don't have the right drivers for your device and you need to manually look for the device type and model nr on the card itself and download them from the manufacturers website. Good Luck !
Click here to go to HP's Driver page you can type in the model of your computer to download the drivers then transfer the driver files with a CD or USB Drive to install them on the HP tower. This should get all the components like Ethernet/ sound/ and video back to normal :) Hope this helps. Best of luck to you :)
I hope the following information is helpful.
If you are trying to install the driver for the Broadcom ethernet NIC that was pre-installed (NOT an ethernet card that you purchased and installed yourself), there is a softpack (updated driver installation) download available from HP/Compaq. It will install the driver automatically for you, just download it from the link below and run the ".exe" file.
IMPORTANT: Check to be sure that your current Operating System, and model of the network device you are trying to install, are BOTH listed below BEFORE you download!
