The best free anti virus program you can get is one called Avast Anti Virus. You can download it from download.com easily and use it to scan your computer and remove any threat. Another good application is called spybot search and destroy. This detects and removed spyware and malware. You can get this from the same place.
Well, if i were you, I would either just take the hard drive from your old computer and connecting it so you can access said data, or you can partition the drive so you can install xp AND 7 on the same machine, then do your thing. However, i would not reccommend the latter if you don't know what you're doing. Hire a geek to downgrade your computer or something if you don't want to fiddle with the insides.
Your system loaded with Windows Xp Operating System might get affected by various viruses and malware. The antivirus softwares installed in your system for the removal and prevention of viruses from your system cause the freezing issue. This antivirus softwares might take too many time to load and it also make the entire system slow to boot. The antivirus programs result in the freezing of the Windows Xp during start up. Thus you need to temporary uninstall the antivirus software during the start up of your system.
Here are some discrete steps you shall also take
besides fixing your Windows 7 registry which is inevitable for safer and
stable computing: * Conduct an antivirus and antimalware scan.
Fixing for malwares after a registry scan gives an extra protection to
the PC and saves PCs from lots of dangerous infections.
* Start Windows 7 in safe mode and restore your PC/system to the
previous date after which you received the Windows 7 updates. It is
believed that some updates may be behind these screen issues in Windows
* Adjust your display settings since the wrong settings may also
cause the Windows 7 black screen also called the blank screen. You can
do this by starting Windows in safe mode.
Follow all the guidelines and start from registry repairing
scan for Windows 7 to fix Windows 7 black screen.use registry cleaner reg in out to solve the issue
If you have an Antivirus program on your computer, try getting it to scan and quarantine the virus first. If that doesn't work, and you're running XP or higher windows, restore your computer to an earlier date than the problem started occurring. I've had success with this method. Go to "Help and Support" and go to "Backup and Restore", then "Restore". Pick a date and then let the machine run- sometimes it takes it a couple minutes to run, then it will tell you to turn off the computer and let it restart. Good luck, hope this helps.
Put the HDD in any other computer , creat a folder called XPbackup and copy the XP cd to the folder, Start the XP install from the other computer , when the install stops for CD key , turn of the computer and remove the HDD and put the HDD on the laptop and turn it on , Mostly the installation should start from where it stoped. If the Xp install askes for the source files , browse to the folder created and point to the files. Most of the time XP will install a generic HAL so no need to worry.
