SOURCE: magnavox 37MF321D/37 power light & screen flash, won't come on.

The capacitors in question are as follows. 2074 is a 2200uf 35v 105degree celsius. 2081 is a 1200uf 35v 105 degree celsius. I would recommend the smallest solder you can find, and use a 35 w solder pencil.

Problems Identified:

Capacitor 2079 appears overloaded - 1200uf 35v

Capacitor 2080 appears overloaded - 1200uf 35v

Explanation:

The capacitors referenced regulate the voltage controlling the power. These caps have a limited lifetime in hours which is usually around 3000. The device was left on for an extended period of time overloading these essential components.

Resolution:

1. I will order a set of replacement capacitors

2. Discharge board prior to work

3. Remove and replace damaged capacitors

Required Parts (total cost $30):

(2) Vented axial 1200uF 35v Capacitors - $8

Variable wattage soldering iron (minimum 35w) - $22

LCD TV won't turn on- power light flashing

This is a very common symptom of a failure in the power supply board. The failure is caused by parts called capacitors. Here is a link to information on what needs to be replace on the power supply board to repair it. It is an easy repair, takes about 20 minutes.

The tv will only turn on if power is removed (plug pulled). Works fine until turned off then AC power must be removed before coming on again.

Other sites show that power up problems are due to the aluminum electrolytic capacitors on the power supply board being defective. Replacing the four 470uf 25v capacitors (470 micro farad, 25 volt) on the board usually fixes the problem. Sometimes also the two 1200uf 25v capacitors could be the culprit. I suggest changing them all. The price is about $7 for the parts online at Mouser electronics plus $7 shipping. I just fixed mine. I bought two 1200uf 35v capacitors, Mouser part number: 647-UPJ1V122MHD6 and four 470uf 25v capacitors Mouser part number: 661-EKY250ELL471MH2 These are slightly larger than the originals but still fit and they were in stock. You will then have to open the unit (relatively easy) remove the power supply board by removing four screws and disconnecting the connectors (Make a note of wire colors and where the connectors came from before removing). Then you will need to remove the old parts by desoldering them and then solder in the new parts (somewhat easy if you have soldered before)

Yes, he means 2200 microfarret (called uf from here on out). Another important concern when buying a replacement is the voltage. You need to get something that is at least 25v. I recommend a 35v or better. Another notable point is that this may not always fix the problem. As with mine, there was also a 1200uf (microfarret) 35v capacitor that was blown. You can tell this because they bulge at the top. I have both of these caps (2200uf 35v and 1200uf 35v) on order and they will be here tomorrow. If I do not post back here then they fixed the issue for me. I suspect that this will resolve the problem. Look for bulges on top of the caps. This is an indication that they are blown. Most all of you experiancing these symptoms will see the 2200uf cap bulging but you may also see others bulging too. If you do then you need to replace those too. No electrolitic capacitor should be bulging at the top so if its bulging its bad, and if its bad then your tv will definitely not work. Have fun.

May be the same problem Magnavox is having with their 27MF231d. I found the fix on this site and it took care of the same problem with my set. Not the easiest thing to do, but it worked. If you do not know how to solder, get some help with this one. If you take it to a Magnavox Authorized repair location, they will just replace the bad capacitor with another bad capacitor of the same type and voltage. The problem is they have a 25w capacitor where a 35w capacitor should be. Mine was bulging, with black tar looking stuff coming out of it. It was obviously bad. Follw the instructions below.

1. Remove all screws around perimeter, one screw at the lower right at (Side A/V), and 2 1”round plastic knob s.
2. Remove back cover
3. At lower left side remove 2 screws for On/Off switch cut tie wrap that holds wire down for free movement.
