Question about GE GFWN1100LWW Laundry : Front Load Washers
It is level and makes no difference if the clothes are evenly distributed (balanced) or not. It is a screaming noise not a knocking noise.

The screaming noise is probably from a dry bearing in the motor, it will probably come and go and shouldnt cause to much problem, they are supposed to be self lubricating but sometime they run dry.

check part #370 in this picture there are 4 of them, one at each corner, they are black heavy rubber bands to keep the tub centered. maybe that one or more are broken. if they are ok, then check the rod and spring assemblies, one at the front and one at the back. they are long and are part of the suspension system. hope this will help you.

If your machine is making louder than normal noise during spin it could be the failure of the basket. Mine is just under three years old and the basket became looser than normal in the tub. I diassembled the machine...a lot of work...and found the aluminum casting around the shaft and bolted to the basket had rotted away. It looks like it was attacked by the bleach since I had my water checked and its pH is fine. It is likely the root of the smell we have experienced with our clothes when they sit too long in the machine. I spoke with GE and they gladly agreed to replace the parts needed but it is a ton of work to install them. I plan to treat the new part with some zinc chromate if I can get some before the parts arrive. See the picture if it attached correctly.
