When I shout, I am barely able to get a response from the mic supplied with my S120H webcam. Is there software to bring up the input?

I have a samson c01u and using audacity. i set the input level in the control panel to 100 and also in audacity, but the the volume is still too low. i can barely hear my voice. what do i do?

1. Did you select Left channel only in Audacity for the track you're recording?
2. Maybe it's a defective mic. Try it on another computer/software/USB cable/USB port and if it still doesn't work get Samson to replace it.

Mic input is always to low to hear but can see on slide gage. Last try said it was "being used by another device". ???

Right click on the volume control and open the volume controls mixer. If the mic volume is not shown choose properties and there you can add it. You will see a tab called "advanced". If you open that you will have a check box that allows you to turn on or off a setting that will increase the volume of the mic by 4db. IF it is being by another device, evaluate clearly what software you have open at the time. Close them a get to the basics of getting the volume up. It is an attenuator setting for the mic input.

Very low volume from mic input even with Gain and Master turned full on

You haven't told us what type mic you are using. If you are trying to use a condensr mic with this, you will need a preamp that supplies Phantom power to the mic. You haven't told us what cable you are using. Do check that you aren't using a condenser mic as there will be virtually no volume.

Cannot create audio input (line-in) for creating a video on youtube.com. I select line-in for a microphne selection, plug it in on the front mic input channel on my acer, and nothing at all happens. I just...

Your Mic input is still probably the best to use, at a guess the only one.

Once connceted, go into your control panel, click on "Sounds and Audio devices" Under the "Volume" tab, Click on the "Advanced" box which is in the "Device Volume" box.

A new box will appear "Volume Control". If the Mike input is not include then click on options then properties and check the Microphone box.

The mike should now appear in your volume control box, ensure the volume is up and the "Mute" box at the bottom is not checked.

I just bought a Fender VF3 electric violin. It

The piezo pickups for violins REQUIRE a high impedance input preamp.

The measured impedance of My wife's violin is on the order of 2 megohms.

It sounds like you are having cable connection problems. If you don't have a preamp right at the vilin, then use a VERY short high impedance instrument cable.

Most of the Focusrite mic preamps I looked at had input impedance around 5K ohms which is unsuitable for the piezo pickups.

Here we use an Autolycus pickup on an acoustical vilin and an X2 wireless system. The transmiter has a very high input impedance and the resulting system sounds like a violin.

Some amps themselves DO have a high input impedance, but many designed for guitars do not. Long cables, especially low impedance ones, load the piezo pickup with capacitance which clobbers the high frequency response.

Tascam DP02 - LOW VOLUMES!

Phantom power should only be used with a condenser/ribbon mic. If you're using a dynamic mic (like the one in the photo) you don't need phantom power. Also I run my mics and instruments through a mixer, then into the unit. Also if you're mixing your masters at a low volume, the CD will play at a lower volume. Try mastering at as high a volume as possible, avoid clipping of course. But get it as loud as possible while mastering. Then the master copy should be louder. I have a DP02 and found out it needs decent monitors to mix and master. That's all I've got.

AKG Perception Microphone ony recording in mono but want stereo.

I have similar problems with inputing stereo sound. How do you know your mic port on the PC is set for stereo? What kind of a cable are you using? If it is an XLR, the connection is pure mono. Maybe you need a TRS cable, which looks like a 1/4 inch jack but is really stereo. Maybe you need a stereo mini. Usually a cable mismatch is the problem. Is your phantom power supply passing stereo? All the ones I have seen are mono. You may need two. Is your sound capture set for stereo? Are the input level controls set correctly for equal volume on left or right channel? I would try the mic with a regular amplifier to insure both channels are working. Then trace the signal from mic to power supply and power supply to computer.

Low audio input

You need to use a mic preamp or a mixer with a mic preamp built in. The inputs on the FCA202 are line level and they won't work with a mic directly.
