Question about Maytag MBF2556HEW / MBF2556HEB / MBF2556HEQ Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

Popping noise We have a Maytag MBF2556HEW for the last 2 years. It has been making a popping noise for some time now and it seems to be getting more frequent and louder. And then today, when the freezer drawer was open there was a hissing noise coming out of the freezer but the ice maker was turned off. I was trying to figure out if this is a start of a problem or normal. Thanks for your help

Re: Popping noise

What you are describing sounds like the refrigerant flowing through the evaporator that is in the freezer. when the weather is hotter and more humid out the unit has to work harder to keep it cool so you may hear more noise due to the compressor running longer and more often. so most times it is normal to hear it at some point in time.

Buzzing or popping noise made by fridge

Hi this could be 2 things. Either it will be on defrost mode, so water hitting defrost element or the refrigerant noise as it's passing thru the pipework. If the init is working well don't panic

My Maytag refrigerator makes a loud popping noise. It woke me up at 1 am. Refridgerator is 10 years old no ice maker. The sound is pretty loud. Is this a bad sign? Is there any danger here? Should I be...

the popping noise you're talking about, could it just be your self-defroster in operation, sometimes if there a lot of ice and it operates a long time, there could be expansion noises, such as the refrigerator walls expanding/contracting from the heat of the defroster,if it's water you will hear a sizzling popping sound, nothing to fear dear

My maytag refrigerator started making a buzzing noise every time it goes on. it lasts about 5 seconds then clicks off. any idea what it is?

I have the same problem. It is ice buildup around the evaporator fan that begins as a buzzing (the fan blades hitting the advancing "glacier"), which ultimately stops the fan and then the freezer/fridge stop cooling. Just pull the lower sheet metal from the inside rear of the freezer (need to remove some screws from upper sheet also) and chip the ice away. I've got a question in to Maytag now to see how to prevent this from recurring. I've had to take the thing apart 3 times in 2 years.

Noisy compressor

im sorry to inform you that you may have a bad compressor that needs to be replaced. try checking the potential relay located at the side of the compressor and also check the over load relay at the same spot where the potential relay is. be carefull, the compressor is very hot. if they are ok, then you have a bad compressor.
