You have a heat pump. You need a thermostat for "Heat pump with Electric back-up heat". Make sure the 'stat has either an "aux" (auxilliary heat) or an "E"(Emergency heat) terminal. The wiring instructions will be provided with the thermostat.

This will depend on type of system, standard high efficent furnance or heat pump. The orange terminal is for the reversing valve on the heat pump for the cooling cycle. Your best bet would be to get a thermostat that is fitted to your furnace instead of a universal t-stat. If I knew what brand of furnace, I could be more help.

The red does go to RC, but the yellow should go to the W terminal, in HVAC W=heat Y=Cool, so aslong as the same wire is on RC on the t-stat, and RC on the unit, and same wire to the W on the t-stat as to W on the unit it should work!

Hello,You forgot to wire the O terminal w1 witch is the reversing valve. It is important to check if old stat is using O or B in witch case B terminal=w1 leaving O unused.
