Actuator might be bad, not getting 24 volts, bad switch, or needs maintenance and grease.

We need more info. Which control system is it? Suntouch, easytouch, intellitouch.......? It sounds like a programming problem in the controller.

SOURCE: pool heater is not working properly

So I assume you have pressed the button by pool to select the pool thermostat? If this doesn't work sounds like another mother board problem, or try powering down the unit a few minutes then restart. IF you haven't pressed the pool button, the read this: The heater comes factory set at 78° F. for the pool mode and 100° F. for the spa mode. If it's in spa mode it's trying to get to 100F. Using the up and down arrows, you can set the thermostats to a minimum temperature of 65° F., or a maximum of 104° F. If you desire to heat only one
body of water, the thermostat is capable of an off mode. As an example, if you only wish to heat the pool and not the spa simply depress and hold the spa down arrow, and the thermostat will lower its setting to 65° F. then go to an off mode. SOURCE: heater will fire up, but only run for about five

Possibly poor water flow. Clean all the baskets, pump too and backwash/clean the filter. If water flow is ok it might be the temperature control. If you are running it on "pool" try using the "spa" control...

I have a Jandy Aqualink pool system. When I turn on the spa and heater, the spa drains..I've never had this happen but don't use the spa much. What should I check?

His is not typically a control panel issue but more likely a valve issue.

Your valves are set as follows wih a few minor variations.....
Pool mode- sucks from pool skimmer and or pool vac line and returns water to both the pool and spa.
Spa mode - self contains the spa , meaning water is sucked from the spa and returned only to the spa.
If your spa is draining then most likely one of your electronic valves is failing...most likely it's the return valve so what is happening is the water is sucked from the spa and returned to the pool instead of self containing the spa.
Easy check is to be next to the equip when spa mode is selected and two valves should move and align properly, the return side valve is most likely not moving or it is not moving into the correct position.
The fix is either adjusting the valve acuator or buying a new valve acuator.
Another thing to check is on the main panel circuit board to ensure the return and auction 3 pin plug ins are still connected.

I have a Aqualink RS6. When I push the "Spa" button to circulate water from the spa, to the heater, back to the spa, then the spa begins to empty! What do I fix or replace?

it sounds as if the actuator returning the water to the spa is not responding. when you hit spa, the 'draw' and 'return' valves must be in the right position. if the draw switches to spa but the return stays on pool, the spa will drain

My controller says it is in spa mode - trying to heat only spa- but water is spilling into pool. I have 2 jandy valves, only 1 moves when I change from spa/pool mode. Any suggestions?

The valve actuator on the suction side is either bad or the toggle switch on the back is in the wrong position. There are 3 positions for the switch on/off/on. It should be in either be all the way up or all the way down. In spa mode move the toggle switch. If it still doesn't move then you have a bad actuator. If it moves someone has moved the switch.

The Spa Mode emptied the spa water into the pool so the pool level is too high and I cant get the spa to refill.

You RETURN side valve actuator has malfunctioned and did not move into the spa return position. Most actuators have a toggle switch on them where you can over ride the system.
The 3 positions are; normal, off, and reverse. You can check to see how the valve is moving by flipping the toggle switch. If the actuator is more than 10-12 years old it may need to be replaced. Actuators are standardized between manufacturers and new ones will run about $120, easy to change out.

Spa won't heat unless in spa mode, and if it is in

On the automated valves there are tiny switches on one end or under the valve actuator. When you switch to the spa mode the suction valve should should move to fully block pool drains. The return valve should fully block the pipes to the pool returns and spa fountain. If one or both of these valves is not fully blocking the pipes to the pool then the tiny switch on that valve is in the wrong position or an operator is defective. The middle position of either of these switches turns the operator completely off so it cannot move. That is the position to avoid unless you want to operate it manually. One of the other switch positions caused the valve to move in one direction and the other switch positions causes the valve to move in the other direction. If you set the switches so when in the spa mode water is circulating only in the spa then you have the valves in the right position. Next, place the system into the pool mode. Both valves should move to the other position. If not then the valve operator that doesn't move has a problem. It could be the operator, the wiring, the control panel or a stuck valve in that order. All of this sounds complicated but once you know how the operators should act when you flip those tiny switches and how the valves should act when in the spa and the pool mode then getting the switches set right is simple. I hope this helps.

JVA 2440 rotates continuously in spa mode

If you remove the handel and open thr top of the actuator you will see a set nut on the center of the shaft that you use to set where the valve stops. If this is tight then you may have a bad micro switch in the unit and you should replace the actuator. Good luck.

Jandy aqualink rs4: pool has been winterized with the spa left on. when switched from service mode into auto mode system switches back from spa into pool mode (motorized valve switches back to pool mode)....

the only thing you can do since the jandy does not have a "winter" mode is switch the valves off. Once you have the valves in spa mode, there should be a toggle switch on the valve actuators. You can set the switches to the middle position and that will lock them in that position. You will probably have to re-winterize the pool lines.

Why does the spa empty when the pump shuts off? just got a pool with an aqualink RS4 and no manual to look at. thanks

This problem can be caused by a couple things. the two most likely culprtits are either the absence of check valves and or incorrect actuator settings when the pump shuts down.

Your spa is most likely higher than the pool. You most likely have a spill over (waterfall) feature from the spa into the pool. This is so the spa water can be recirculated in pool mode. One of your actuator valves may be slightly off closed position in order to allow spill over in the spa, or you may have a dedicated overfill pipe in the circuit to feed water to spa in pool mode.

Whichever spill over piping you have set up, when the pump shuts down, water from the spa ( higher level than the pool) will backfeed through the overflow spa circuit, back through the pump and into the pool through either drain or return. Effectively rendering your spa level the same level as your pool.

To fix this problem, simply install check valves into the spa runs and as a secondary measure put one into the pool return run ( the run that feeds water to pool).

This will insure that when the pump shuts down, no matter which position the valve actuators may be set, water can not back feed through the pump circuit from spa to pool.
