The viewable area is bigger than the screen. I can't seem to adjust it so it fits on the actual screen. A maximized window extends down below the visible screen the height of a toolbar or so. How can I adjust the size of the viewable area? This monitor is used as a dual monitor for a Lenovo ThinkPad laptop. Current resolution is set to 1920x1080. Buttons on monior adjust location, but not size. Adjustments through ATI Control Center don't seem to be enough to fix this. I'm not a tech-savy user... very average computer skills. Monitor is Samsung SyncMaster 2333sw

You probably need to go into the control panel and change the resolution for your display

When using firefox the content is bigger than the monitor screen. how do i adjust the content horizontally to fit the screen?

Did you try simply holding the Ctrl key and pressing the minus (-) sign? That will zoom the content to a smaller size.

The image leaves about 2.5 inches not used on each side of the monitor.

Hello,

The bands are caused by the monitor displaying a picture that is not the correct resolution. This model has a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 according to LG - see http://www.pcworld.com/reviews/product/124873/review/w2353vpf.html#specs When you have your video card set to a different resolution that this the monitor tries to adjust the display to best fit the screen. The native or default resolution is 16:9 or wide-screen and if you have the video card displaying at 4:3 then you will have the blank bars displayed. Go to display properties and change your resolution to one that is 16:9 ratio and the bars should fill out.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

1920x1080 resolution-entire screen not viewable

This also happens to my vga connection to my TV.
I used my tv remote "auto" button to re-size it to fit correctly.
If your monitor/TV does not have the adjustment, you may need to
supply your vga compatible device with your monitor's driver software.
This tells your computer what monitor specifications you have.

How do i adjust size of desktop background to fit screen

If you are using Windows Vista right mouse click on an empty area of the desktop and select personalize. Click on the tab for background and there are options there to fit to screen, stretch image, tile, etc. Select the stretch image and then apply. It will make the image fit your entire desktop. If you are using Windows XP it would basically be the same steps exceot when you right click you would select properties. Hope this helps.

How do I adjust my monitor? My home page does not

I'm not sure what operating system you're using nor what you mean by your "home page". If you mean your browser window doesn't fill the whole Windows desktop, what happens when you maximize the window?

If your desktop looks huge with tiny icons (and tiny-looking windows, if you have any open and not maximized) all clustered in the middle of the screen, your display resolution may be set higher than you're accustomed to. In most versions of Windows you can go to Control Panel | Display, see what your current resolution is, and try adjusting it. The higher the numbers, the "bigger" the desktop area (and the smaller the icons and everything else). If you adjust the resolution higher than your monitor can handle, you may lose your display and have to restart the computer in something like Safe mode to get to Control Panel and readjust it. If you adjust the resolution lower (or run in Safe Mode) your icons may not fit on the smaller desktop and may get scrambled. In that case, first straighten out the display resolution, then move your icons back where you want them.

I am getting a burnt smell coming from the rear of the monitor. The screen flickers and you can hear sparks sometimes. Recently the viewable area has decreased greatly and the adjustments won't rectify...

these are capacitors that are burning. also, the resistors are really going threw major stress. i would remove the CRT monitor from the plug and, rebuild the power board immediately before a fire starts. This is a power board issue at the moment but, it will spread as long as power is still running threw the monitor.

Acer 19167W flat screen

Depending on the application you are viewing the picture in you can shrink the application window. You could reduce the size of the viewable area but that defeats the purpose of the wide screen which is to provide a better viewing experience (to quote the marketing types). It sounds like....since the wider screen really has nothing to do with your picture size....you might want to adjust your picture size independent of screens and applications. There are a variety of free products out there that can do this...and some are really nifty...perhaps better than the software you might now be using.
