I have set up the printer with the software downloaded from Dells website. The Printer Test Page works perfectly, but unfortunately when i send other items to print, characters are printed and not words, its not recognising the items im trying to print, but i dont know how to fix this problem, can you help please?

Print test page from the printer. This prints fine? Then anytime a printer prints gibberish versus what you were trying to print from the computer means you should try one of two things. Download the most recent drivers from the products support site, install these. Be sure to uninstall the old drivers first. Another item that can cause gibberish print is a bad cable. Swapping out with a known good could solve the whole problem.
Print test page from the printer. This does not print fine? Then you are looking at something wrong with the printer. The cable and drivers would not be the cause because the only piece of equipment involved at this point is the printer. First step I would try in solving this. Download and update the firmware from the support site. If this does not work, then you may have a defunct printer. If you are under warranty, contact Dell tech support.

Power off printer. and unplug USB cable, Go to control panel and uninstall all related software.reboot PC. Go to printer Manufacture website and download latest version of software. install software. do not plug in the printer until told to do so.
Try creating the document on another program. If that does not work try to find software from another site HP should have all the software and updates on a current download file. You should not have interference with the download, if so there may be a quirk in your computer somewhere.
You may have to change the communication format called the "Spool format."
Please follow the steps given below to change the spool data format:
1. Click on "Start," "Control Panel," "Hardware and Sound" and "Printers."
2. Then, right click on the Lexmark printer icon and left click "Properties."
3. Either on the "Advanced" tab or the "General" tab for some models, there is a "Print Processor" button, left click it.
4. This is the spool format setting. Under "Print processor" it should be set to "Lexmark 2400 series print processor." Next, under "Default datatype," select "NT EMF 1.008."
5. Click "OK" and exit back out to your desktop.
6. Please try printing again.
If this does not help the situation, please describe any differences it does make.
Since the printer prints the test page from the driver, most likely the problem is with your Cardfive software. To test this, try printing a card on the printer from Microsoft Word or Notepad. Just remember to set your page size or you will get multiple cards printed. The Fargo printer is just a windows printer and may receive output from any windows software.
