Hello Valery, you found a solution to reduce the output voltage from HPS3KW?
The trimmer inside is very inaccessible and
I would not use the diodes do not dissipate power unnecessarily.

Can you provide any specifics on the make, model, and what the power connector is labeled on the motherboard? We'll also need the make/model of power supply and the labeling on the physical connector that your using from the power supply (i.e. PCIe, or ATX, etc.)

on the part of the power supply there is another connection with 4 pins the 20 pin and the 4 pins click together then slot into motherboard thats usually wat the problem is theres AT and ATX motherboards see if you have those extra 4 pins hanging loose on the wires they slide into each other then into motherboard

I've got a new Gigabyte Ga-M68Mt-D3 mobo paired with a cooler master 460 watt power supple. Cpu is Amd phenom II 3.2 ghz with 4 gig of DDR3 ram. I powered up the supply attached to my ATX power supply...


Most motherboards now have a 24-pin power supply connector. If you haven't already found a diagram showing the pinouts of the 20- and 24-pin power plugs, here's one borrowed from a handy site:

The two plugs are essentially the same, but the 24-pin version duplicates some voltages on the extra pins. The extra pins in the larger connector were meant to provide extra current paths for voltages that see heavy loads from newer processors and motherboard circuitry. Depending on how a motherboard is designed, it might work with a 20-pin plug connected (leaving pins 11, 12, 23 and 24 empty). But typically if the board has a 24-pin connector it needs the 24-pin power supply plug.

Most power supplies have a 20-pin plug with a separate 4-pin section that fastens to it for connection to a 24-pin mobo connector. It typically has one side designed to slide onto the end of the 20-pin plug, essentially turning it into the 24-pin version. This added plug does not have a retaining clamp on its side, so you can tell it from the the 4-pin CPU power plug. The wire colors are also different. For reference, here is the processor power plug, from the same website:

New motherboard specs call for the separate processor power connector for the same reason the extra pins were added to the power supply connector: to handle the high currents needed by increasingly faster CPUs.

AOpen AX4BS motherboard front panel connections & power on.


That model motherboard does not support on/off control of the power supply. Refer to the output diagram on the power supply, and there should be pins in the connector (not used on your board) that may refer to the on/off control. Those pins should be tied together. Then the PC will turn on via the main power switch, and will require a manual turn off when the display says its ok.

Motherboard has a 24pin connector for the power supply, but the connector on the power supply has a 20 pin connect? How do I connect it correctly


i presume that is a pentium 4 or newer motherboard. you will need a power supply that has at least one or two of the small four pin connectors as well... generally if it has that the extra four pins slides onto the 20 pin connector on one side and that makes up your 24 pin connection.

I would like to know how to troubleshoot a brand new Ultra LS600 power supply. I would like to go beyond hearing "it's dead" since I am getting power to the motherboard (via indicator light)m but the PSU...


You can start the PSU manually with a paper clip.
Remove the 20 pin connector from the motherboard, leave the four pin power connectors attached to your various drives (this will provide a load on the power supply when it start up (provided it is not faulty).
Look at the 20 pin connector with the connector facing you.and the locking clip to your left.
The fourth pin from the bottom LH corner should be a green colour wire and the next two wires (5th & 6th pin) should be black and next to the locking clip.
Straighten a paper clip and insert it into the 4th pin and into the 5th or 6th pin (ie connect these wires together). These wires connect to the front panel switch to turn on your computer. You are testing the power supply only and since it is not connected to the motherboard the computer won't start.
Now connect the power unit to the mains and switch on the mains, if the power supply is OK the PSU fan should spin up and your hard disk should also spin up. If nothing happens the the PSU is faulty.
You can test the +5volts and +12volts supply on a 4 pin power connector with a multimeter. The red wire is +5volts and the yellow wire is +12volts and the black wires are negative (ground). The voltage readings should be within 5% of these voltages.
There are other voltages to be checked +3volts, -5volts, & -12volts. but these are not as critical.

ATX Power Supply Question


Most new power supplies have a twenty pin Molex connector and a 4 pin Molex connector. If you look closely at the connectors you will see that they go together a certain way. It can be very hard to tell. Take a close look at the shapes of each terminal. Match them up exactly.
