Upgrade Sony VGN-S580 to 2GB memory

I have installed the first 1GB in the bottom of the laptop. I need assistance in the installation of the second 1 GB.

I believe it is under the keyboard but not for sure. How and where is the second location?

I have two 1GB DDR2 PC2 4200/533MHz Notebook cards.

Thanks, I need your help before I break something. I had taken out all the screws on the bottom of the laptop but it did not come apart easily.

Thank you very much for the info.

The document was what I needed. It took me about 15 minutes to install and test/valid.

You were a great help and I am happy I found you.

If you go to this link, then go to page 100, it will give you step by step directions on upgrading the memory that is located under the keyboard.

Flip the notebook upside down and disconnect the power adoptor and remove the battery from the notebook and you will have a flap showing a rectangle shape open that flap and hold the memory in45deg in the slot and press the memory in and it will get lock in the slot

You need to buy the same kind of memory and make sure your laptop support that amount of memory and any BIOS settings are updated for it.

I have a vgn-b3vp (pcg-5b1m) sony laptop, can i upgrade the memory if it has 512 of none-removable memory and only 1 bank.

Yes, you can use the 1 bank and get higher graded memory, another 512 in the 1 bank would make 1gig, you can probable get as much as 2 gig in the bank to make a total of 2.5 gigs by buying a 2 gig memory stick.

I want to upgrade my ram what type of ram should i use and how what is the maximum amount of ram i can upgrade to?

Hi,
Memory Upgrade for Sony VAIO PCG-K35 Laptop, the Sony VAIO PCG-K35 Laptop takes the PC2100 DDR SDRAM SODIMMs Memory Type, and comes installed with 512 MB = 256 MB (removable) + 256 MB (removable) of Memory. You can upgrade your Sony VAIO PCG-K35 Laptop to up to a maximum of 1.0 GB Memory, the system has 2 sockets to install Memory, already with 512 MB = 256 MB (removable) + 256 MB (removable) standard Memory installed. For best Laptop performance use the maximum amount of allowed Memory per slot for your Laptop.

Need disassembly instructions to install additional RAM

If the ram is upgradeable, there should be an access port on the bottom that can easily be removed. Open all access ports until you find the one for ram. Then you should be able to upgrade the ram.

Memory upgrade

The memory is located through a access panel on the bottom of the unit. It is very easy to remove and install. Try to handle the memory sticks with care not to have any static electricity on you self. I have found one possible site to purchase the proper replacement memory sticks from. Good luck and have a good day.

The Crucial website suggests you can put 1GB in each slot. http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listparts.aspx?model=VAIO%20VGN-S460%20Series Sony might know which CPUs will work with this. Hopefully any Pentium-M with 533 FSB.
