After running for a few minutes, the cool mode shuts off and I get a flashing "E-1" error code. If I unplug and plug in the unit, the unit starts and the same cycle happens again after a few minutes. Sincere thanks for your suggestions.
An E1 error is automatically generated after the AC runs for so many hours to remind you to clean the filter. The owners manual says to clean the filter and unplug the unit, then plug unit back in and code will be reset.
However, a User review stated that his code was not reset until he followed a fairly simple routine. "Unplug the unit. Hold down the power button and plug back in. Wait to hear a "beep" and then unplug it again. Plug unit in again and it should restart without E1 code."

May have been co-incidental but I got an E1 code after I took the unit outside and removed the front cover to treat unit with Bio Clean. Found that two ground wire were loose. Tightened to no avail, then came to Dogpile the error code. Found the above solutions and went to try the second as had already tried the first. But I just plugged it in to see if error still existed. It was gone. So it had been replugged a couple of times and then unplugged for at least ten minutes while I booted PC and wait for dial-up...., perhaps it was the extended power down.

We recently experienced a sever thunderstorm in which my unit got wet. A few hours later it shut off with an E1 error code. I simply placed the unit on its back allowing it to drain completely of fluid and plugged it back in and it worked fine

Another Brand's manual suggests first holding down the power button and plug back in, then try holding the or the "Mode" button if the power button doesn't reset the unit effectively. The mode button finally did it for my unit.

I've tried the "hold on to power button while resetting" methods (and similar variations). However, each time the test sequence comes on, it doesn't end with a beep sound. Instead it keeps repeating itself over and over.
TIA.

I have a sharp window unit that has worked for the last 4 years or so. I was installing it this spring and the compressor will not engage. But when i run it through the self test / reset (hold power button and plug in) i hear the compressor engaging. I have the front panel off and i have checked all the connections, the temp sensor reads correctly and throws no codes. I did drop it from the height of a toilet when installing it. Perhaps that has something to do with it. I have a car aircon pressure gauge around, is there a place/way to hook it up maybe?
