SOURCE: Mower will not stay running unless primer button

The tube in the bottom of the carb. is probably clogged. Remove the carb, and bowl and try spraying WD-40 through the tube, it should spray into the venturi if it doesn't try using a tip cleaner to unclog the tube.

SOURCE: gas leaking in a stream from other end of primer line

Something is causing the float in the carb to stick in a downward position. This float tells the carb when to cut off the flow, and stuck down it keeps the channel open for gas to flow through. Empty the gas and remove and thoroughly clean out the carb, making sure you hit the float bowl very well. Worst case the float could be bad. If cleaning it thoroughly doesn't get it, consider a carb rebuild kit from the engine manufacturer or replacing the carb.

SOURCE: Craftsman 5.5 Gold mower will not start

YOUR PROBLEM IS SIMPLE.
FIRST OF ALL THE HOLE IN THE PRIMER BUTTON MUST BE THERE TO POP BACK OUT EACH TIME YOU PRESS IT NOW AS TO THE GAS COMING OUT OF THERE
THE FLOAT IN THE CARB IS STUCK IN THE FILL POSITION AND WILL NOT LIFT ONCE THE BOWL IS FULL TO STOP THE GAS FROM FILLING OR YOU HAVE A PIN HOLE IN THE FLOAT ITSELF.UNDO THE NOT ON THE BOOTM OF THE BOWL WITH THE LAWN MOWER TILTED ON A 45 DEGREE ANGLE SEE IF YOU CAN MOVE THE FLOAT UP AND DOWN IF IT IS FREE MOVING SPRAY THE WHOLE AREA CLEAN WITH CARB CLEANER AND REASSEMBLE TRY TO START ,IF STILL THE SAME PROBLEM YOU WILL NEED TO REBUILD THE CARB AND INSTALL A NEW FLOAT

SOURCE: Honda gas powered lawn mower will not start

If it sat for years then its likely a fuel problem. Verify this by spraying a prime in the carb and trying to start it. If the unit starts then its a fuel problem. I would drain the tank and replace with fresh fuel, remove the carb and clean it.

Lawnmower carburetor problem.

Remove carb float bowl. Check float operation. Float down gas flow, float up no gas flow. Clean float bowl. Observe bowl screw, see if there is a hole or holes thru the screw. Clean out with thin wire, bread wrapper works peeled back about an inch. Use wire to clean out center port of carb. Remove mounting pin of float, remove float and meter needle, clean out port up thru carb with wire. Reassemble try to start. Prime at least 3 times, ensure primer bulb is not cracked, replace if cracked. Replace air filter if dirty. Replace spark plug once a year. Fill oil. 30w. Mowers now have a low oil cutoff.

Remove carb float bowl. Clean bowl. Observe float bowl screw, look for hole thru bolt, if present use thin wire to clean out. Float should be hanging freely and gas should be flowing, raise float gas should stop. Pinch off gas line or use shut off valve. Remove pin from float, remove float and needle meter. Use thin wire to clean out passage were meter needle is inserted, wire should pass thru to behind choke. Replace float & meter needle. Replace float bowl. Pull rope half way several times. Inspect primer bulb for cracks or leak. Try to start, may take 5 or more pulls to prime.

Sounds like the primer bulb dry rotted from sitting &/or the float is stuck in carb. If gas is indeed leaking from bulb. It will need to be replaced. While it is apart, clean carb inside & out with spray carb cleaner.

check the gas line between the carb and bulb. Or it could be the plastic primer bulb itself. -a small tear or slice could easily go unnoticed.

Carb. float must be stuck open. First if you have no fuel in the tank it must all be in the crankcase.Drain the oil and refill and also check the carb as the float has to be sticking open. Hope this will help you. Donnyb60
