Question about Kenmore Elite HE5t Washer
I have a Kenmore Elite HE5t with QietPak9. The machine made some grinding noise earlier in the day and now there's no agitation and the wash cycle ends with an F25 error code. I've tried to move the drum by hand, but it does not turn. I'm not sure if the drum on this machine normally turns by hand or not. I want to make sure that this problem can be fixed by replacing the MCU or whether there's a bigger problem.

How do you remove the top of a kenmore washing machine? I have a mouse stuck in the lid and can not get the top off.

The F54 fault code indicates that the control board senses high motor current.
This can be caused by excessive friction in the spin basket.
With the washer off, open the lid and see if the basket spins freely.
If not, you may need to remove the basket and check for an item stuck between the spin basket and the outer washer tub.
The second and third images show procedures for removing the basket on the Oasis washer depending on whether you have an impeller or agitator in your model.
If the basket spins okay, then you can follow the technical troubleshooting described in the first image.
This may help you determine the cause of your washer problem.

The drive motor may be defective. Many washer brands use a reversing motor. For agitation the motor runs in one direction, for spinning and draining, the other. It's possible for a motor to burn out in one direction and continue to operate in the other. If this happens, you need to replace the entire motor. The transmission may not be shifting properly. Older washers produced by Whirlpool and Kenmore have a transmission with an electro-mechanical shifter. If the shifter becomes even partially defective, the unit may drain the water but not spin. This is a complex system, if your washer has a shifter problem, you may want to hire a qualified appliance repair technician to repair it. The spin bearing or basket drive may be worn or seized. These components allow the inner tub to spin freely inside the outer tub. When this is the problem, you usually hear a loud sound during the spin cycle. Call a qualified appliance repair technician.
