the message is probably saying that you do not installed he correct driver...Go to the HP support and download the correct driver..To do that select in the list the exact model and exact operation system for it ..If you use a newish operation system ..and it only have drivers for windows Xp or vista ..try to install the newer one ..(vista in our case ) ..and after install click right on the program ..and select properties..and compatibility ...then select to run in compatibility with the operation system your driver was made for ..If the driver is for vista ...select vista if it is for XP ..select xp ..and you have a 50% chances to work ..

My hp deskjet 1280 windows 7 drivers update driver but not working properly full driver setup need please helpme

If your running windows 7 try this place the driver file on your desktop and right click on it and choose trouble shoot compatibility. windows will ask if you want to use recommended settings, or try additional options choose try additional options. it will then ask you if it worked on another os, choose vista service pack 2 , then click the start program button, this will start the install shield in vista compatibility mode. and follow the wizard thru the installation. Reboot and that should solve your issue.

Printer will not operate on Windows 7 computer.Computer was upgraded from Vista to 7. Vista was completely removed before installing 7. Tried downloading new drivers, didnot work.

Possibly HP rare not supporting this printer in the new OS, although most Vista drivers are compatible with Windows 7, so have you tried installing the original drivers that came with the printer?

Also, Windows 7 has a driver "compatibility mode". Here is use of the mode explained on the Microsoft tech forum:

Installing f300 all-in-one series printer, to computer w/windows vista home premium[32]

Go here to and click on your specific model, then click on 'Software & Driver downloads', then your Operating System, and you should now be able to download the correct driver package for your printer. I hope that helps. Bundled software with printers and other devices is often out-of-date.
