SOURCE: guard

I'm not certain this is the same model I'm thinking of, but I think there may be a knob on the back side (behind the blade) which clamps down on a shaft coming off the blade guard. Loosen the know and the guard should pull straight off. Maybe I'm thinking of a different model slicer, but the photo looks correct.

Why is my blade hitting the blade guard

Hard to say without seeing it but....wrong sized blade, bent blade, clamp missing or installed wrong, bent guard, or bent blade shaft. I'd look in that order. Hope that helps.

I hava a 7 1/4 circular saw model # 5250. The blade broke off and we can't get the bolt loosened enough to replace the blade. Any ideas on how to get bolt off?

If you have no way to prevent the motor from turning when you try to remove the blade bolt, you are going to have to immobilize the armature to get it off. Remove the cap on the motor housing so you can remove or relieve the spring pressure on the brushes. Then remove the motor housing with the field, leaving the armature attached to the blade guard/transmission assembly. Now you can safely hold the armature while turning the blade bolt.

How to change blades

unplug it. remove the bolt in the center of the blade. the blade will slip off then. a wrench for this should have come with your saw. if not, use any properly sized wrench. if needed, pull back the blade guard, put the blade on a old piece of wood, push down on the saw and use the wrench. the wood and your pressure will stop the blade from turning as you loosen the bolt

We have Skil 7 1/4 circ saw model 5400-01 how do you adjust blade depth?

There is a lever on the back of the top blade guard, if you pull up on it you can adjust the foot up or down to control how deep the blade will cut.

How do I lock the motor in to remove bolt and replace blade

If there is not a built in lock for the motor simply use a scrap piece of wood. Pull back the blade guard and place the saw on the piece of wood with the teeth logged into the wood. Apply pressure downward on the teeth and remove the bolt holding the blade in place. You can also use a scrap piece of wood to wedge in the saw between the guard and the blade to prevent it from turning. Be careful and make sure you are turning the bolt in the correct direction.

How to get blade off

1. Unplug the saw.
2. Locate the blade lock button used to lock the motor shaft when changing a blade. For your saw, this button is usually located on the right side of the blade guard somewhere around the motor housing.
3. Push the button while rotating the blade until the button engages and the blade will no longer turn.
4. Use the wrench that came with the saw (or another wrench) to loosen and remove the blade bolt. For a worm drive saw with the blade to the left of the motor, the bolt should have left hand threads (non-standard) which means you loosen the bolt by turning it clock-wise.

Attaching Blade Gaurd

As long as you line it up properly, it should work. Just make sure the CENTER if the blade is lined ip with the center of the blade guard mount. Use folded paper to match the kerf on one side of the blade and use the fence as a guide. Tighten the screws underneath the back of the table, that hold the guard in place.

I have a very old Skil circular saw Model #586. What size blade does it use?

measure from the center of the shaft to the inside of the guard, double that distance. subtract about 3/4 of an inch and this will be real close to the blade diameter that you need
