Question about Nikon Coolpix 4200 Digital Camera

Can't download movie from Nikon Coolpix 4200

When I connect my camera to my Mac and try to download a movie in iPhoto, the movie will not download. It sees that there is a movie there, and it takes enough time to download, but it never shows up in the library and it's still in the camera memory, even though I told it to delete after downloading. I've downloaded movies several times before with no problem, now all of a sudden it won't work. It downloads photos OK, just not movies. I re-formatted the memory card but it didn't help.

This sounded like a logical solution for the problem, so I bought a new memory card and tried again. The first movie I took downloaded perfectly and I thought the problem was solved. However, the second time I tried to download a movie it would not download from the camera just like the way the old memory card was doing. So, it seems that I'm back to square one. Any other ideas of why this works sometimes but not every time?

Do what the pros do to avoid this very problem...use a card reader to download to a folder you create on the desktop. Once there, you can send the pics to iPhoto.

I am not sure if I can help but what I would suggest is first of all disconnect the camera from the mac and then if you have iphoto go to preferences and make sure that iphoto is the application that is activated when the camera is plugged in. Then close the preferences. Now connect the camera to your mac. If you do not have iphoto you can use image capture which is in the applications folder. Hope this helps.

My nikon coolpix camera will not show up on my mac

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your Mac.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can Nikon Transfer or iPhoto or any other photo cataloging program.

iPhoto works with still photos, and movies aren't still photos. Try using iMovie or any other video program.

You need to have a mac compatible driver installed for the camera as that could be one of the reason its not accepting the command.
