IBM ThinkPad T60. No sound & internal wireless modem is dead

I have an IBM ThinkPad T60. I no longer get sound from the internal speakers or through the headphone jack. In addition, the internal wireless modem no longer works. Any ideas on how I can fix these two problems. Thanks, Frank

I reinstalled the sound driver, but this did not fix the problem. I suspect it's a hardware issue, but I don't know where to begin.

Thanks David. Is the motherboard replacement a job I can do myself, or does it require special equipment. Will I loose everything on my hard drive?

    Thanks for the support

Sounds like you need to reinstall the sound driver, the should be located on your computer, or you can download then from IBM's website

XP drivers: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-62855

Vista: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67218

Hope this helps, if so please rate accordingly.

Thanks,
David

If you reinstalled the sound driver, then it may be a hardware issue, if so the only recourse is replacing the motherboard since the soud one the laptop is built into the motherboard itself...

Same thing for the wireless modem as well, if you downloaded the drivers then the only thing left is to replace thepart.

    Sorry,

    David

It can be done by you, the hardest part will be finding a replacement, you should be able to retain your data because it is on the hard drive which will be removed from the laptop before hand...

Let me know if you have any more questions

P.S. there will be a lot of screws, I suggest getting a nice piece of rigid insulation and using it to push your screws into so it will be a litle easire to remember where they go back....

I am unable to connect to a wireless network on my ibm thinkpad T60 pc

First is there a security code to connect to your wireless access point? This is YOUR home wireless? Is your wireless adapter enabled, and working properly on the laptop? Reboot the wireless access point by removing th AC plug and wait 30 seconds, plug in, wait for the device to self-test. Cold-start your laptop, unplug. remove battery, plug in, reboot. If that fails go to IBM/ Lonovo website and update driver for wireless adapter. And all other deivers as needed.

IBM thinkpad type 2647 - after installing external

Go to control panel / sounds / audio, and see if the boxes have greyed out writing, if so then the driver needs reloading, if they are all good check all settings.

Meant to ask if volume control icon is showing in the right lower task bar.

T60 not powering up

the battery might be so dead that it's faulting the charging system, remove the battery, remove the power then plug it back in (with out the battery) and try turning it on,.. if that doesn't work try looking up how to reset the bios (or remove the bios battery) for a BIOS reset.

Wireless network not working.

To answer the first problem. I see the file offered from IBM for the wireless driver is an .exe file. The file must be run and the application installed. If windows detects the hardware and you point to that file it will not recognise it as a driver.

The second problem is quite a bit different. There at least the hardware is installed otherwise you would not be able to detect wireless connections.
