I have a Sony KDS-50A2000 TV. It is about 1.5 years old. The lamp blew out. I replaced it with a new one and thye TV worked for about 10min and then blew the new lamp. The red lamp light blinks 3 times. What could be causing the lamp to blow?
Hi, the ballast are bad. replace this and you will be OK.
Hi,
Did you use an original Sony lamp? If so, I would say that the problem lies with your lamp ballast, or lamp power supply. Also, keep in mind that, although rare, occasionally the lamp power supply will fail in such a way that it will take out the lamp and any other lamp that is put in. So if your new lamp is blown, it is likely the lamp power supply that is at fault and you will require a new lamp as well.
Thanks,
PREM
If you remove the rear cover, the lamp driver (power supply) is where the two red wires that go to the lamp assembly come from. Follow the wires from the lamp back to the lamp driver. You can go the the website that you mentioned and call them at the 800 number listed for help looking up the part number.

Hi.. try to replace the lamp and do reset timer in customer menu. this is a common problem with all Sony.....
thank u!!
hi...make sure that you didn't hurt the little micro switch in the door cover that you
took off. If that little switch isn't activated, the set won't turn on
at all. Make sure you hear it " click" Or you can hold it manually with
the door removed and see if set turns on then. If it does, then its high time that you have
found the fault.....
thank u

It sounds like your new bulb was faulty especial if its a refurbished one that would explain why it blew so quick lots of place sale cheaply made bulbs that should'nt be used, also you want to make sure that the lamp you bought was the exact type made for your t.v. this also would cause it to blow so quick
Three blinks - B+ over voltage protection (OVP), unit goes to the standby mode then displays the 3 blink fault. This is also a problem in the power supply circuit, check T603 and R672.
3 times blink is Lamp cover error. Please check lamp cover that must be seated properly.
New lamp is just fine in TV and will work.
I gave you correct solution / info as you said led blinks 3 times.
If lamp is blew then you will see lamp led flashes non-stop.
You have not placed lamp cover properly as there is safety switch to tells system control about door open or close.
Please check Lamp Door/ Cover and make sure its fixed well.
How do you know Lamp is blown?
Do you know how DLP Lamp does work?
Why don't you double check Lamp Cover which is not fixed properly and causing 3 times blink.
I'm providing you 3 blink error info from Sony KDS-50A2000 service manual.
Below is an image of first page of S-M
Ballast Lamp does not have any filament inside like ordinary house lamp.
DLP TV Lamp drives through approx 1K volts produced by ballast supply to generate light by spark between electrodes of lamp.
I hope you got original Sony lamp as replacement and it is not aftermarket or compatible lamp.

Cmon guys help me out here. It's not a faulty lamp, it's not resetting a timer, or replacing a cover. Something is drawing to much power making the lamp blow. What could it be?

I know the lamp is blown because I removed it and the filament is shattered. Forget about the blinking light. The blinking light is not reliable becuase there is no lamp at this time thus no cover. It is my wish to discover the fault that is causing the lamp to blow before I destroy another another one.
thank you!
