Question about D-Link Xtreme N DIR-655 Wireless Router

No wireless (init failed) but wired works fine

Hi,
we just bought us a dir-635
connected and wired works perfect,
but the wireless doesnt. when we setup the wireless trough the wizard, it seems fine, but when i save the settings, and go to the status page, it gives us this error message: wireless radio: init failed
we see no mac adress on the status page either, SSID isnt shown there either, tbh. the only thing filled in in the wireless section is the error message, and the WISH: is active ...
no idea what could be wrong, i dont know wish maybe the problem is there.... if anyone got an idea, please help us out,
thanks
Sander I have the same problem and I called Dlink went through all their steps including turning off the power doing a hard and soft reset as well as updating the firmware nothing worked they pretty much told me too bad there's nothing they can do.

I have the exact same problem, running 1.21eu firmware version.

Same problem on two routers (first one RMAed becuase Dlink tech support couldnt fix it) (on the phone again with them now)
Tried the 192.168.2.1 and multiple other 192.168.x.1 addresses to see if that fixed the problem with no luck.

    Any other thoughts?
Dlink people seem to think it is a hardware failure (and will RMA based upon this failure).

SOURCE: no wireless (init failed) but wired works fine

Turn off all power supplies to the router. turn off internet Source. Leave everything for about 10 seconds. Turn all equipment back on including the router and it should sort it. You are reseting the router and loosing its memory basically.

hope this helps you

Work as acsess point

Hi there,

first let's back up and get the terminology right (otherwise you will not find any information on the internet.)
Your 655 will be the Access point, because it gives access to the wired WAN (ISP, Internet, etc.), or 'outside world".
Your 635 will be called a Bridge, because it bridges the connection from the access point to other wired or wireless clients inside your own network.

If this mode is accessible for you depends on the firmware you have installed. Look at this posting.

Your D-Link 635 is unfortunately not compatible with other firmware, which would be necessary to convert it into a bridge. (See here)

Sorry - but that's the reason why so many people get a Linksys or Buffalo router.

Also - the distance of 500 meters (open air or not) requires an increased transmitting power from the access point (655) and you will have to use different antennas. Third-party firmware also allows you to modify the standard power settings, but you have to make sure that you stay within legal limits of the place where you set this up. If your signal interferes with someone else's, you might get into trouble or even get a fine.

If you have any more questions, just come back here and leave a comment - I'm happy to help.

Problem with the wireless d link DIR- 635

I'd try doing a power cycle. Power off all the equipment. Plug in the Modem untill the online light is solid, then plug in the router, then i'd turn on your laptop.

Ensure that your connecting to the right network. Under the network settings the SSID is your Network name. Make sure it's not a generic name.

If you have a cable provider, you can just bring it to Geek Squad. They'll setup the router and setup all the security features in the store within about 10-15minutes.

D-Link DIR-635 - wireless not working

Hello GEMD,

There may be different reasons why your wireless network is not working properly, let me ask you few questions in order to narrow down the problem.
  1. Is your D-Link DIR-635 brand new therefore we are talking about a new installation?
  2. Are you able to connect via wireless your two laptops in other locations?
  3. Could it be that the wireless has not been enabled yet in your router settings? To check this you will have to log on to your router by typing 192.168.0.1 in the address bar of Internet Explorer then select Admin as Username and leave the password field blank. Go to the Wireless Settings and Setup tab in order to enable  the "radio" signal.
  4. Could it be that an SSID has not been assigned yet to your wireless network?
You can download the complete product manual from the following page.

D-link DIR-635 router

Hi, I am assuming that you can connect to your router's web based interface (192.168.0.1). On a PC LAN wired to the router, open a browser; Type "192.168.0.1"; Log-in username/admin and password/(blank); Go to Tools > Misc and the option to select the WAN speed (bottom); Lock the speed down on the WAN port of your router to 10Mbps (Some versions do not have this feature). Hope this works for you. If not pls post back with your modem brand/model. You may also want to log the IP settings (IP Add, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, DNS Servers) of the PC that is directly connected to the modem when you can access the Internet when not using the router. Good luck and kind regards.
