Re: gas go's on then shut off
Check the exhaust for good air flow.
Remove the rear exhaust vent and run the dryer.
If that corrects the problem repair the vent blockage.
If it does not correct the problem replace the gas valve coils.

Watch the igniter. Does it glow bright orange, then shut off without igniting the gas? (When the gas ignites there's a large blue flame.) If so, there may be defective coils on the gas valve. Mounted on the top of modern gas valves, there are black electrical coils. The coils, when energized, open the gas valve. If one or more of the coils are defective, the valve doesn't open and the gas cannot ignite. Because it's often difficult to properly test the coils, it's usually best to replace both (all) of them at the same time. Here is a link to the parts you need.
If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heatingthe most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glowssometimes it is still not working properly.
if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....
If you have an electric dryer, you can have many differentthings that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.
check out this electric no heat tip...
if burner lights but fails to relight after several shut offs suspect burners solenoids change both they come in a kit ..once the solenoids get hot they will sometimes open electrically and fail to reenergize after cool down they will open gas valve and alow burner to reignite..also be sure vent to outside to clean and vent behind dryer is not flattened or kinked has know flame to not be properly burning due to exhaust problems and flame sensor would shut burner down
Is this the scenario? It lights for a few cycles or maybe not at all. The ignitor glows and goes out but no flame. Comes back on then does the same thing. If so it could be failing coils (those two black cylinders on top of the gas valve assembly). There's a kit that includes both and it's a fairly simple job.
