A white belt wheel with an aluminum mount came off its base and it looks like it was attached next to the motor. I can't tell if it is supposed to be mounted there because it seems it would be difficult to place the belt on it from that position. This model is around 20 years old.

Re: white belt wheel came off
The bottom of the tension roller goes in 2 slots under the motor pulley.
The wheel will be at your left facing the motor.
Reroute the belt around the drum...through the tension roller then on to the motor pulley.

The dryer vent can be fixed with several types of product. The best choice is the solid aluminum pipe that usually comes in 2ft sections but will need cut to proper size and joined with metal elbows. Not hard if you are handy. Next choice is the flexible metal pipe that attaches with big clamps. Last choice is the Flexible type that looks like aluminum foil which also attaches with clamps. DO NOT USE THE WHITE PLASTIC FLEXIBLE VENT PIPE. IT IS A FIRE HAZZARD.
If the dryer does not turn then you need to take the back off and see if the belt has broke or come off. If the belt broke or came off then you can get a new one at most home repair stores. If the belt is on and or not broke the see if the wheel mounted to the motor will freely spin. If it does spin the make sure that the electric wires attached to the motor itself are attached and there are no shortages from the motor to the relay on the back of the control panel.
its called an idler arm, it attaches next to the motor as this is what keeps tension on the belt so it will stay tight on the drum. If I remember correctly there is a slot on the bottom of the dryer close or right next/past the motor, slide it into that slot, with the small plastic wheel up next to/by the motor. I am attaching a diagram for the belt it will help. Good Luck and I hope I helped Tim:
Remember the belt should ride in the middle of the drum and the back of the drum is lipped and should go behind the drum rollers. Once the belt is thread it will be tight and the idler arm will not longer be loose.
I recently needed to repair my washer. With limited money I sure couldn't buy a new one so I did some looking and found this site, I have included info on your dryers model number. I hope this helps, These folks were fast and my son was able to do the work without any special tools - http://www.repairclinic.com/Shop-For-Parts?s=t-MDE5500AY-%3d%3d
Belt tensioners are almost always located right next to motor pulley, either mounted to dryer base panel or to the end of motor itself. There is an access panel on the back of dryer for access to it. The opening is large enough to service it , in MOST cases.
The small white plastic white wheel goes to the idler pulley. It is located to the left of the burner assembly on the bottom cabinet behind the blower fan assembly. This is what keeps the belt tightly around the drum. There is an excellent illustration of this at pcappliancerepair.com. Just type in your model number and look for item 13 under the "Cabinet Parts" heading. The idler pulley attaches to the idler bracket (item 39).
There should be a small triangle shaped retaining clip that keeps the pulley in place on the shaft. It is known as a "tri-clip". If the clip has broken off, you can purchase replacements at pcappliancerepair.com for about $3. The part number is 690997. There is also a thrust washer on the idler shaft. The part number 233520. Make sure it is still in place.
If the pulley needs replaced, the part number is 279640 and it comes with the thrust washer and tri-clip retainers for about $14.
To access, remove the toe panel directly below the door and remove the air blower assembly cover. Make sure you UNPLUG the dryer while servicing the cabinet interior. Dangerous voltage is still present while the unit is turned off. You should be able to reach behind the drive motor and find the spring activated idler bracket. The wheel mounts on the back side of it with the thrust washer installed first, and the tri-clip inserted last. Refer to the parts drawing for details.
NOTE: Without the tension on the belt, the idler bracket will trip a small switch that prevents the drive motor from running. This is known as a "broken belt switch" that keeps a broken belt from wrapping around the motor shaft and burning. So, if your dryer is running, this is why. You should be able to hear the switch toggle as you move the idler bracket up and down.

The idler pulley goes in front of motor shaft. There is two slits in sheet metal where it slides in. after pulley is on. put the belt around drum and pinch belt together. put belt under idler wheel then put end on motor shaft. You can push up on idler pulley to get around motor.Make sure grooved side of belt is wrapped around drum. Good Luck!!
the idler arm has a white wheel. the belt sits on the wheel (both sides). Push down on the the wheel / arm and the belt should now go around the motor pulley. groove side of the belt is against the drum. So it should look like this, if your looking at it from back right side of unit, left side of belt against white wheel, press down and fit the loop around the motor pulley. Good luck!
