PC can't find it

Hello. I plugged in my new Sansa c240 (USB) and it lights up for a second, shows me an image of a locked lock, then turns off and the PC cannot see it.

I tried both using a USB on the rear of the cpu and flipping the hold switch. Neither worked.

When I connect my player to the usb, it says its connected on the player, but the computer doesn't find it. I checked windows media player and my computer to see if it was there, but it doesn't show up. But when I disconnect it, the computer makes that little beep that makes whenever I disconnect anything else.

I tried using both a port in the front and back of the modem, and flipping the hold switch, but neither worked.

The USB port you are using might not have enough power. Try a USB port on the back of the computer if possible. Also try a shorter USB cable if you have one around.

Is there a "Hold" switch on the side of the player? If so, try moving it to the second position.

Can I use my Sandisk Sansa C240 while it is charging?

This is normal when the Sansa is connected to a computer. You can use it while charging if you connect it to something else. For example, you might have a cell phone with a USB charger that plugs into a wall outlet. You could connect the Sansa to it, and it would let you listen while charging.

How to I start the c240 up it My computer doesnt

On Windows XP, when you open My Computer, the Sansa C240 shows up at the bottom, under "Other". Because of DRM restrictions, you cannot copy media files to the C240 using Windows Explorer. You have to use Windows Media Player to sync playlists to the C240 (WinAmp can do it also).
I also suggest that you check out RockBox. It's an alternative operating system for portable media players and they have a version for the Sansa C240. It will give you some additional functionality.
As far as I can tell, to copy files to the microSD card (if you're using one) you have to use a media card reader, then insert the card into the C240.

Entering recovery mode is not possible

Disengage the lock switch, then try this: Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware.

My sandisk c240 charges when plugged in but fails to be recognized on the computer

There is quite possibly a problem with the USB cable or the USB port on the computer, but try this shortcut force to force the computer to recognize the Mp3 player: Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard
