Question about Arris SURFboard SB5101 Cable Modem
Using a motorola sb 5101 once a day it drops internet connection. recycle it and it works like a charm. have an airport router and switched it to a negear g. routers always stay green but motorola lights go out and drops connection. you can see it is trying to access internet but is unable to. someone help. oh comcast says i have a strong signal but it fluctuates. researched and found that is common.

Your modem needs to be rebooted in order for your router to pull an IP from the modem. To do this, look for a little hole in the back of your modem and use a pen to push the button. Wait for the reboot to finish and then try again in about 20 seconds.

Not sure how helpful this will be, as I'm running a different piece of gear, plus it requires both troubleshooting + ISP assistance. I had a similar problem with my AirPort Extreme: AirPort Extreme saw the Arris, iBook saw the AirPort Extreme, but no internet connectivity.

The problem would be comcast. Your connections are setup correctly. The modems do not control the internet traffic flow, they are made to produce maximum flow.
If more people use the internet, the less flow it will have.
Check all internet options settings, and make sure EVERTHING is set to automatic

Shut down your computer, unplug the cable modem and the switch. Connect all three - computer to switch, switch to modem. Make sure that the ethernet cable between the router and the modem is in the router uplink port and that the computer is plugged into one of the four ports that look alike. Wait 30 seconds - plug in the modem. Wait another 30 seconds, plug in the router, wait another 30 seconds and boot the computer. Open a browser and see if you have internet access. If you still don't, then try to check the browser by typing 192.168.1.1 into the address bar of the browser. That should give you the browser sign in screen. The Linksys default is to leave the user name blank and type admin for the password. That should give you access to the router so you can check the settings. If this doesn't work, document carefully what happens and post again with your results and we'll try to go from there.
