SOURCE: Cobra PR3850WX will not recharge batteries

There is a contact in the upper left hand corner of the batt compartment. This has to touch the metal of the last batt.If your batts have paper around them scrape it off where it contacts that contact point.

SOURCE: my charger will not charge

1) Clean the battery contacts on the radio, battery and charger with a pencil eraser.
2) Test the charger by turning the radio on while attached to the charger (do NOT transmit, as this may cause damage to the unit). If the light on the charger comes on while the radio is turned on, you have a good charger, and a bad battery.
3) If the above test detects a bad battery, replace the battery.
4) Not sure if the battery is bad? Trade the battery out of a known good unit into this one to see if it solves the problem.

SOURCE: I have the cobra CXT275

Just went to their site and this is what it said:

This may simply be a matter of misinterpreting the low-battery indicator. We use two different types of battery indicators:

  1. Battery Level Indicator: This battery indicator is always visible, and has several segments. When all the segments are lit, the batteries are full. When only the last segment is lit, the batteries are almost exhausted.
  2. Low Battery Indicator: This type is usually NOT visible. It only appears when the batteries are low, at which time it flashes on the display to warn you of a low battery condition.
Please note that when you turn on your radio it first performs a display test. Everything on the display will light up for a few seconds, including the Low Battery Indicator. This does not mean that the batteries are low. After a few seconds the display test will end, at which time the Low Battery Indicator should go away.

CXT 195. What amp charger to use?

Do you mean 145? I cannot find a 195 on their web site. The CXT 145 comes with a USB Y charger cable, designed to charge off a USB port. Use a high output USB adapter. Amps of 1 to 3 should work fine. You are using rechargeable NiMh batteries and they do not care as long as it is at least 1 amp. Higher amp will charge a bit faster and make the batteries hotter.

I put new batteries in my Cobra 2-way radios and charged them for 24 hours. Still shows "low battery" when I turn them on.

Check your charger and battery contacts. Cleaning battery contacts on the radio and charger with a pencil eraser will remove dust, dirt, debris, and hand oil which may cause the battery to charge poorly. Secondly, you might want to check that your charger itself is working properly. If you have a second known good radio you might try charging it on the same charger.

Best regards.

How long should you charge the batteries on your Cobra cxt235 when you first get it?

Hi,

usually overnight is the best with the radio turned off.

Always charge your batteries with the radio turned off, else you'll burn out your batteries before their time was due for replacement.
I hope I have answered your query for you.

Best regards,
Peter

Manual for Cobra Micro Talk CXT 275 Manual

I have this manual. I looked online at the Cobra site for a digital copy, and the manual for the CXT225 is a very close match. I checked it page by page and only found one small difference in the section on charging the battery. (Don't leave it on the charger more than 24 hours). Here's the link to the CXT225 manual: https://www.cobra.com/downloads/manuals/CXT225_MANL.pdf

Cobra HH 40 charger specs

I have a Cobra HH-40 CB radio and am charging it as I type. The included charger is rated at 16V DC, 100mA. The pattery pack charges 10 AA rechargable batteries (the manual specifies NiCd, but you can also safely use NiHM). The 12V DC car charger included cannot be used to charge the battery pack, but can power the radio.
