Thanks for the reply but i forgot to add when the water is running inside the ice maker, their is alot of heat inside the ice maker bin. Can someone help

  • kcastjohn Mar 18, 2009

My icemaker was melting the ice, so I ran the clean cycle. Now it sounds like water is just running and it is hot when I open the door, no ice. I already drained the trough that holds the water and cleaned it a couple of times and when I turn it on it just runs. Am I understanding from the earlier comments that I need to pull the icemaker out from under the countertop and unplug the unit? If so, then what.

how do you reset the ice maker?

  • peeks248 May 19, 2009

My KitchenAid Icemaker is only 18 months old and it just stopped making ice. The inside of the bin was also way too warm and the surface of the control panel (on/off clean/reset switches, etc) seemed excessively warm as well, almost hot.

I cleaned the condenser coils which were loaded with dust and I ran it through a cleaning cycle. It made two sheets of ice within 45 minutes and once again stopped and got hot inside the bin and control panel. I ran another clean cycle and then it made ice for about 5 days and stopped again.

I suspect that whatever is causing the heat build-up is the failing component...

Any thoughts or tests that a novice might perform?

Either has electric problem or mechanical.
way to tell is plug it up, turn it on turn on water. If its sending in water unplug it and if water stops it is electrical and the ice maker head is causing the problem if it stops the water valve is stuck open and you can disassemble and clean it out sometimes. A slight lime scale can cause this.
Hope this helps please rate me accordingly and good luck.

You need to unplug the ice maker it has 2 or 3 screws that hold the icemaker in place then when you pull it out of its possession you'll see the plug. Unplug it and sit the ice maker aside.

Ice maker quit working but water dispenser still works, the reservoir to make cubes also empty.can you advise?

If the ice maker tray is empty you may have a water valve failure. usually this unit have a dual valve 1 for the dispenser the other one for the ice maker some time a side fail and the entire solenoid have to be replace. the ice maker can also be bad. an easy way for you to test if ice maker is good is by putting water manually inside the ice maker tray depending on how cold is your frig wait about 2 hrs or less if the ice maker cycles and drop ice then water solenoid is the problem if not then replace ice maker.

I have a frigidaire refrig. Water collects under the fruit and veg bins. Any ideas why and what I can do would be helpful. It is not coming from the ice maker as it was doing this well before I put the...

Hi Erica, I am happy to assist you. I understand that water is collecting in the bins. Self-defrosting refrigerators dispose of the water generated during the defrost cycle, usually via a tube or channel that directs the water to a pan at the bottom of the refrigerator. From the pan, the water normally evaporates.

If the tube or channel is clogged or obstructed, the water backs up and leaks into the inside of the refrigerator compartment. Then the water builds up at the bottom, inside of the refrigerator bins. When the water has built up for a time it may spill out of the front of the door opening. To fix this problem, clear the drain tube or channel and allow the defrost water to flow down to the drain pan.

I certainly hope this troubleshooting tip resolves your concern. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to respond.

GE Monogram ZDIS15 has ice (sometimes) getting stuck on freezing plate. It gets hot & tries to release, but only partially (sometimes works fine). I have cleaned with solution, run the cleaning cycle...

It is time to run a ice machine cleaner through the unit, instruction should be on the door. When you get a build up is causes your ice to bind to the evaporator plate and cause this problem. Most ice machines require cleaning every 6 month to prevent this. Use nickel safe cleaner only, and most of the time this will correct the ice binding on that evaporator plate.
I hope this helps

My cme 256a8 model scotsman ice melts to fast will not fill my 250 lb. bin in four days. What is the problem? in a hour run time it makes 7 lbs of ice and 4 lbs. water. in one dump cycle it makes 3 lbs...

There are a couple of things to check. The machine must be level. You can remove the front cover and the plastic sheet that covers the plate where the ice is made. Check to see that the water is flowing from the manifold at the top of the plate. You may have to pop the hose off the end of that manifold to clean the water holes out. It must flow evenly over the plate. Probably the most common problem is the radiator coil there the fan draws air through is clogged up so that it can't dissapate heat properly. You should be able to feel a lot of hot air moving through the coils. The fan cycles on and off periodically to maintain a certain pressure in the freon. That is normal. Clean the fan coils and level the machine.

English instructions for saivod fhs186 ice maker

DO THE BASICS:
Change the water filter
Add ice machine cleaner and go by the directions.
What should be kept clean?
There are 5 things to keep clean:
1. The outside cabinet & door.
2. The ice storage bin.
3. The condenser.
4. The ice making system.
5. The ice scoop.
The ice storage bin should be sanitized
occasionally. It is usually convenient to sanitize the
bin after the ice making system has been cleaned,
and the storage bin is empty.
A sanitizing solution can be made of 1 ounce of
household bleach and two gallons of hot (950F. -
1150F.) water. Use a clean cloth and wipe the
interior of the ice storage bin with the sanitizing
solution, pour some of the solution down the drain.
Allow to air dry.

How to clean the condenser.
The condenser is like the radiator on a car, it has
fins and tubes that can become clogged. To clean:
1. Remove the kickplate.
2. Locate the condenser surface.
3. Vacuum the surface, removing all dust and lint.
Caution: Do not dent the fins.
4. Replace the kickplate.
Winterizing
1. Clean the machine as explained on the next
page.
2. Turn off the water supply.
3. Drain the water reservoir. See page 24, Spray
Pump Repair and follow the instructions to remove
the pump hose (step 2, bottom hose only).
4. Disconnect the incoming water line at the inlet
water valve.
5Remove control box cover and turn the timer
into the harvest cycle.
6. With the machine operating, blow air through
the inlet water valve; a tire pump could do the job.
7. Drain pump models should have about 1¤2 gallon
of RV antifreeze (propylene glycol) poured into the
ice storage bin drain.
Note: Automotive antifreeze must NOT be used.
8. Replace control box cover. Switch off and
unplug the machine.

CUBE ADJUSTMENTS
There are three items that may be adjusted: Cube
Size, Harvest Time, and Bin Level. Note: Cube
Size and Harvest Time adjustments should only be
done by a qualified service person.
Cube size control.
The cube size control should only be adjusted to
bring the cubes to the correct shape, the overall
size cannot be adjusted. Try to adjust the cube
size control when the ice machine is in the harvest
cycle, or in the first 10 minutes of the freeze cycle.
1. Open the door and remove the control box
cover.
2. Locate the cube size adjustment screw, and to
make fuller cubes, turn the screw clockwise about
1/4 turn. This will make the freezing cycle longer.
3. To shorten the freezing cycle and make cubes
that are not as full, turn the adjustment screw 1/4
turn counterclockwise.
4. After the next freezing cycle, the cubes should
have responded to the adjustment, if another
adjustment is required, do it early in the freeze
cycle.

Clean light wont stop blinking

This is a code that the water is not being heated. this could be caused by a bad heating element, lack of water, computer control problem or an inadvertant error. all things involved with heating the water need check. the computer has to be reset using a diagnotic mode. wiring info usually behind toe panel may help to solve the problem. please include model # if further info needed.

How do i get to the sensors for full bin to clean them?SCOTSMAN model#cme506as

These units have a real problem with the bin controls. I can't begin to tell you how bad. There are two - for lack of a better term - paddles - that are basically just pushed into the left and right side of the drop area that have small lenses in them with a low level beam that when broken indicates a full bin. You have to reach in from under the bin opening and feel to the left and right, pull the paddles toward the middle and there should be enough slack on the wires to get a good hold of them and clean the lenses with a Q-tip soaked in grapefruit juice. Pop them back in and try them - if that doesn't work (and sorry but most of the time it doesn't) then they will have to be replaced.

Water in box waqter keeps accumulating on shelves iveg bins andunder bins

When the freezer goes through the defrost cycle, the water collects in the defrost drain pan and drains into a pan underneath the unit where it evaporates over time. If the defrost drain pan is clogged, the water will fill the pan where it will freeze. Once the pan is full of ice, the water from the defrost cycle will run over the pan and down into the fresh food section. This will require that the drain pan be clean of the ice and the drain tube cleared of ice and debris.
Hope this helps.
