SOURCE: onga pool pump running but not drawing water from pool

Hi it would most likley be the power cord is on backwards if you reverse the power if will spin the impeller the other way and it should push the water up to filter. Thank you for your post

SOURCE: My pressure gauge is reading 0 when the pump is

1. Make sure multi-port valve if on "filter" (gotta start with the easy answers)
2. Remove the V-clamp holding the pump housing together and start inspection.
3. remove diffuser to gain access to the impeller.
4. check impeller for clogs (very common if around pine trees)
5. If impeller in free of debris, inspect housing o-ring, diffuser o-ring, drain plug o-ring, and shaft seal (if any one of these parts as failed, this pump will not prime and the filter will have no pressure)
6. If all these things check out, then it is possible you have a suction side plumbing clog. (is the skimmer and main drain protected by screens? if so, a clog is very unlikely)

Note: the most common cause of a loss of "prime" on a pump is a failed shaft seal. It is cheap and easy to replce.
You will not want to remove the impeller or do any serious work on this pump unless you have replacement o-rings for the internals. New o-rings and seals is what allows these pumps to work properly.

Hope this helps

SOURCE: my new Optiflow pump surges..............it

it sounds like you may have a suction side leak on the pump. check the lid o-ring and the suction side fittings to see if there may be a possibility of air being sucked into the pump and causing it to act like it's picking up prime and then losing it.

SOURCE: Weak return, weak suction when vacuuming

It may be the hose going from the pool to the pump intake is partially clogged. I had the same problem,, removed the hose and shoved a broom handle through it to remove tree debris.

I have an air leak in intake line

Question:

What do I do if my pool/spa pump is loosing suction or prime?

Answer: by Osko Pool n Spa Pool Pump Losing Suction or Prime If your Swimming Pools Filter system looses Prime, it is caused by one of the following conditions.
Note: The lost of suction/prime is caused a leak which in turn sucks air into the system. The lost of suction/prime will be anywhere from the Main Pool Skimmer(s) to the Pool Pump. It will NOT be from the Pool Pump to the Pools Main Return(s).
1) First make sure that your water level is high enough so that the skimmer is not sucking air.
2) Check the Pump Pot Housing Lid Seal and be certain that its completely sealing and is not
Sucking air into the system. Check the lid for cracks. If either condition is true, replace the Pump Pot Lid Seal and/or entire lid
3) Check all fittings, clamps and hoses from the pools skimmer to the Pools Pump Pot Housing for wear, tightness and leaks.
4) Check Pool Pump Pot Housing for cracks.
If everything aforementioned in good working order, the next thing to check is the Pump Pot Housing Main Seal and the Pumps Impeller and finally the pump.

5) While the Pool Pump Motor is running, carefully inspect the area where the Pump Pot Housing attaches to the Pump Motor. See if there is any water leaking. Next, spray the area with water and see if the water is sucked into the Housing. If so, your Main Seal is damaged.
6) Disassemble the front half of the Pump Pot Housing from the back half and inspect the Pump Motor Impeller. (This is a high suspect part). See if there is any sign of wear or breakage. (This happens over time from debris in the water passing over the impeller). If so, your Impeller is damaged.
7) Re-inspect the Pump Pot Housing Main Seal by standing the partially disassembled upright, with the Pump Motor towards the ground. Pour water over the impeller and into the cavity. See if the water leaks thru to the outside of the Pump Pot Housing. If so, your Main Seal is damaged.
8) Remove the cover from the rear of the Pump Motor. Using a large standard blade, (straight), screwdriver or wrench... turn the main motor shaft. Listen for grinding and/or rumbling and feel for any restrictions while turning. If you hear or feel either, your bearings and/or brushes are damaged.
If everything seems to be in good working order, then you need a new pump... not just replacement parts

Pressure psi filter

Is there water flowing into the pool? If the flow is there it may only be that your gauge is stuck. If not make sure the pump pot (where the basket is by the motor) is full of water before starting. If the pump has water + is running + no psi showing + no water flow, then you likely have an impeller issue. The pump needs to be opened up to see if the impeller is clogged or broken.

I have a swimpro sand filter it is 5 yrs old and this season when i started it up it doesn't seem to have very good pressure i have backwashed it three times and it wont even run my pool cleaner no...

If there is not much pressure, the problem is with the circulation system. Probably the pump.
When a sand bed gets old the pressure goes up on the guage, but the filter doesnt do much. When there is a lack of pressure, its due to a problem with the water flow. Usually a clogged impeller, strainer basket, or skimmer basket.

The most common solution for a loss of pressure is to dissasemble the wet end of the pump, clean out the impeller, and replace all o-rings and seals, including the shaft seal. This will revitalize the performance of your pump.

Done every thing suggested. Still doenst prime. should I fill sand filter?

No prime = either impeller problem, air leak, or blockage on output(bad filter or bad valve) My first choice is dirty filter. Second choice is impeller. Both easy to check.
If you have checked those than you probably have an air leak. Hold a very slow running hose over all pipe joints running into filter, while motor is running. Most likely place is the screw in fitting on front of pump. The water from hose will temporarily seal leak and it should prime.

I have a Hayward Pro series Model S 180T and my pump is not pulling in the water through the skimmer like it did, therefore I am not getting the circulation in my pool like I had in the past. I checked all...

There are a few things to look at here. First is filter pressure.
Check the pressure guage on the filter . If it is at a normal pressure, you sand is probably fine, but do a 20 minute backwash anyways.

Next, are you out doors? if so, when the last time you serviced your pump. All it takes is a bad shaft seal, some pine needles, or some leaves to completely block the impeller in the pump. The is easy to check, simply remove the wet-end of the pump and look inside.

If its the shaft seal, the pump wouuld be dripping water in between the wet-end and the motor.

Also, make sure all skimmer baskets and/or main drains are clear of debris.

Also, make sure all valves are in the correct position.

If the pressure on the filter is normal, again, i wouldnt think its the filter sand.

Creepy crawly no longer sucks leaves from pool bottom, pump pressure is at 8 only instead of 10.

If pressure is low, problem is before gauge and filter. If pressure is high, problem is filter or piping after filter. In you case it sounds like something is caught in hose or pipes . Could also be something stuck in the impeller. Remove cleaner and hoses and see if pressure goes back to normal. If it does not, check impeller. If it does, something is probably caught in cleaner or hoses.

Very low pressure when I run filter and when I backwash filter

Ok... First check to make sure the skimmers are clear, the skimmer float valve is open, the valves by the pump are all open and check the pump strainer basket too. If you are able to, take the motor and seal plate off and check for debris in the impeller. Also there should be an o-ring on the diffuser (the cone shaped part that covers the impeller. Make sure it is there and not stretched or damaged.

No water is pumping back into the pool through the jets and the gauge on the sand filter stays at zero

A gauge that is reading zero indicates there is no pressure in the system, therefor no water is circulating. I am assuming the pump is turning on?? If so, you most likely have an internal impeller failure or a blockage. If the pump is on, and it just hums, then the capacitor on the motor will need to be replaced or the pump itself.

Hi my name is Juan and I was a pool tech in california now located in georgia and let me try solve this if your filter is dirty it created a high pressure in your filter gauge with poor suction to check this bypass the filter and see if suction increase sometimes your gauge is bad and is not showing the true reading but if is good and pressure is to low then is so clear you have a suction leak try to replace the pump lid O ring and if you have spa check the intake valve where you select pool or spa if you don't have spa then the air leak is in the pipe connected to the pump suction side believe me this is a common problem
