Re: Canon fax-B840 - Print is "stripey"
No not yet,the problem is the cartridge, sometimes even new cartridges might have a dry printhead
Remove you cartridge, put the printhead side in about 5mm of hot water and keep it there for 5 minutes, take it out and do head cleanning again.

It sounds like the print head(s) is clogged and needs cleaning. Another potential problem is the wrong ink or a defective cartridge. They ARE different. If you refill the cartridges be sure the ink is compatible with the printer.
Often simply running the built in 'head cleaning' test will clear out the partial clog.

Sounds like the cartridge is empty. Your cartridge has a waste toner hopper that collects excess toner from being deposited on the page. The half full feeling might just be the weight of the waste toner.
hi i am a certified Canon repair tech for this fax. the problem that you are having is very common and has to do with two things. the cartridge and the purge/cleaning unit. what you can try is this open the printer and center the carridge unit and remove the cartridge. unplug the machine while it is still centered. on the right hand side you will see the purge unit. in the center of the purge unit is what looks like a retanglar pad. mix a water soap solution and apply to pad just soaking it. let it sit for a few minutes. take the ink cartridge and wipe the bottom of the cartridge with a damp soapy cloth. also if you look at the cartridge there is a little breating hole you can hold a cloth on the bottom and gently blow in that hole it will purge ink through the bottom of the cartridge. install the cartridge in the machine close the front door and replug in the power cord. you might still have to run a few cleaning cycles. hope this helps.
