Question about Kenmore 98702 Stacked Washer/Dryer

Dryer motor just hums, drum doesn't turn

I've done as was said in a previous question - vacuumed all around the motor and the contacts but it's still just humming. Actually at one point I heard what sounded like a breaker go and the humming stop. It then reset but all it does is still hum with insufficient torque to turn the dryer drum. I think I need to replace the motor? Are there instructions on how to do this somewhere? The machine is 15yrs old I think and I'm also wondering if it's just time to replace it? Thank you.

Thanks Chuck. The belt is not broken and there's good tension, the drum turns fine. It's just when I press 'Start' the motor hums and doesn't seem to have the 'umph' to turn the drum...

You need to have the vacuum cleaned out. If you are good with tools, just remove the motor and fans assembly, take the fans off and wash them. Brush ALL dirt out of the housing and reassemble. Your Electrolux dealer can do this but it isn't cheap. I used to be the service manager for my area. Since it isn't under warranty, you can have ANY reliable vacuum cleaner shop give a good cleanout. NEVER put anything into the cleaner to make it smell good. Electrolux cleaners get their power by having a straight through suction. The air goes through the motor. Adding smelly things can crystallize onto the motor and burn it out.

Sebo felix belt is broken, taken screws from bottom of vacum but will not come apart

There are actually two belts on your Sebo, one that drives the brush, and the second that attaches to the pulley on one end, and the motor shaft on the other. I'm assuming that the belt you need to replace is probably the brush belt, or the belt that attaches to the brush gear on side, and the pulley on the other.

Here's what you'll need to do:

Step 1. Remove the vacuum bag housing so that you are only working with the power nozzle or the bottom portion of your Sebo, this will make it much easier to work with. Turn the vacuum upside down, and remove only the 5 screws that I have circled in red:

Step 2. After removing the screws on the bottom of the vacuum cleaner, separate the top housing from the lower agitator housing, sometimes it may take putting a flat head screw driver in between the white and grey colored housing and prying them apart.

Step 3. You now have full access to the belts on your machine. It's most likely the belt that wraps around the brush gear rather then the belt that's attached to the motor that's gone bad. I have never replaced the motor belt in 8 years of servicing Sebo vacuums. The easiest way to replace this belt is to loosen the pulley system that the belt wrap around. Unscrew the two screws that hold this pulley in place, and remove the brush drive belt from the pulley, and now you can unwrap it from the brush gear as well now with the extra slack in it. Now, if you've been using your Sebo in your home rather then using it commercially in a business, Sebo actually offers a lifetime belt warranty on their vacuum cleaners. The belt is supposed to last as long as the vacuum, and Sebo will actually cover this repair, both parts and labor as long as the machine is being used in a residential home environment..

Possibly got wet. Or.. Carbon brushes are more than likely done or froze up. Motor assembly is inexpensive and the whole thing is replaced most cases. Less expensive than a new one for sure.

Humming sound cumin from my creative inspire 4.1 woofer

Make sure that you've fully pushed in the jack to the sound card.....maybe you've not connected the jack into the correct socket on your soundcard as there are usually 3 identical sockets...but only 1 is the correct one. Sometimes colour-coded green. Try it in each one in turn. If you have headphones, try plugging them in as you will hear sound in them when you've got the correct socket!

I recently bought as '96 VW Passat GLX wagon w/ 2.8 liter. The radiator cooling fans do not come on. Previous owner pulled the 30 amp fuse for the cooling fans & A/C circuit. Not sure why -...

Well as a guess the reason he pulled the fuse was because the fans would not shut off. The next thing to figure out is whether or not it is the fan switch or the thermostatic switch. You will need to test both of them with a multimeter. The thermostatic switch will need to be tested for resistance (Ohms), if tbe circuit is open then the switch is bad and is continuously running the fans.
