Is there any way to remove the BIOS password on an acer aspire 3000? I need to adjust the start up choice to read the cdrom first so I can load the operating system but without access to the BIOS I obviously cannot do so. Thanks

I use http://www.unlockbiosrecovery.com/Unlock_Acer_HDD.php when I need to unlock an Acer HDD or Acer Bios, they only charge $20 and guarantee it.. Repairing laptops I get one or two a month that is locked with bios password or hard drive password.and they have always worked unlocking them.
Most of the laptop manufacturers like DELL have a BIOS password reset tool which you need to call them and ask for the code they will provide to unlock and remove the BIOS password. I suggest you call ACER to check first if they have that same kind of tool. Reseting the BIOS in a laptop is very different compare to a desktop computer.
Thanks for using Fixya.
To clear the bios in a lap top disconect the power supply and un hook the battery and hold down the power on button for 30 seconds after that puth the battery back in and boot it up the password should be gone at this point!
The only way to reset the BIOS password is to
find the jumper pins on the motherboard and set them to the clear state
and remove the CMOS battery. It resets the CMOS to the default state. Your best bet is to contact tech support and explain the situation to them
in bios setup
you can remove user or administartor password.
under security on page.
if you cannot remember password then choose to set to default settings will tell you how at side or bottom of bios page then press f10 to save and exit.

The simplest way to do it is to remove the cmos battery, but this is inside the case, so I'm not sure if you want to try that. Do a Google search on "reset bios password" and you'll find several sites that will walk you through some of the more common fixes.
