Breaker for hot tub keeps tripping

I disconnected all devices from control board at external connections and breaker still trips. Metered between neutral wire and one leg for power and show a short but the other. I suspect a bad board . Is there any other things I should check ?

Leaking heat element.
2 GFCI on same circuit.
Rat-chewed wire. Inspect wiring.
Nail through wire.
Melted wire nut in junction box.
Undersized wire and breaker has been overheating breaker, and breaker has gone bad.
Shorted breaker. Move wires to different same-size breaker.

Is there anything else on the same breaker? Is that the proper amperage for the pump? How long has the pump been in service? It may need to be cleaned as possible obstruction causing too much strain.

Sounds like your controller has sustained damage. You need to have a professional inspect it to determine what has gone wrong.

SOURCE: I have a Sundance Spa that has started tripping the breaker

It is unlikely the Breaker is BAD, that just doesn't happen. To trip a breaker there MUST be an Overload, or a Short circuit, that's it. You will have to use a meter an troubleshoot the system. Something is very wrong..please use the links below to troubleshoot and repair. Please Be careful. http://spababes.com/heaterhelp.html

If this is a new install, re-check your wiring, If not you have a bad motor.

Melisa, Breaker/GFI may be going bad. You may have to get an electrician to check for short or faulty motor/heater, etc. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

My hot tub trips the GFCI. THe GFCI holds when I disconnect the wires running into the hot tub. I have disconnected EVERYTHING from the circuit board including the heater and the GFCI still trips.

Sounds like wet or bad wiring somewhere but u should do a visual inspection of all the wires & connections first then through process of elimination. Turn off breaker disconnect all wires and connect one wire then turn breaker on & if it dosent pop the. Turn it off and connect one more wire and turn the breaker on & continue until you get the breaker to pop and the last wire or board u just connected is your problem & go from there.

I just wired my hot tub into my new house. And GFCI keeps tripping?

Still would go with Miswired.
if this is an auxiliary GFCI Spa Disconnect,
240 VAC, 50 Amp, then...
All of the following needs to be this way:
  • 4 wires from MAIN Circuit panel, into GFCI disconnect box, 2 hots, 1 Neutral, 1 ground
    • 2 hots go onto the disconnects Power Bus Bar for breaker
    • 1 white Nuetral goes to Isolated nuetral bus bar
    • 1 green Ground goes to ground lug directly on the box
  • 1 GFCI in the auxiliary disconnect box
    • The White Pigtail of the GFCI Breaker goes onto the Isolated Nuetral bus bar. There are now two wires there.
  • 4 wires come into box from Spa. (Unless the spa is Specifically a 3 Wire Connection Spa!)
    • 2 Hot/Line wires will go into the L1 & L2 lugs of the breaker respectively.
    • 1 White Nuetral Wire will go into breaker as well at the "Load Nuetral lug, usually marked as 'LN'.
      • It will NOT go on the Isolated Nuetral bus bar.
    • Green Ground wire will be connected to ground lug, 2 wires are now connected there.
  • Connections at spa will be respectively connected: the 2 hots on line 1 and line 2. White wire goes to Nuetralnd green ground will go to a Ground Lug, most likely to metal control box.
If it's not wired in this manner, it is wired WRONG.

Hot tub breaker trips but only when people are in it?

Because it is a GFCI. Try making sure that the grounds are all good. Maybe go the extra step of putting in grounding rods into the ground and grounding to the unit. These are just guesses.

Disconnect the black power wire where it is connected to the furnace with breaker off. Put a wire nut on it and then turn the breaker on. If it continues to trip, the problem is not the furnace and you will have to trace the power wire back to the breaker box to find problem. Next, disconnect the black wire from the breaker (with breaker off) and then snap breaker on. If it trips, bad breaker. If the furnace was disconnected and breaker did not trip, you have a short either on the P C Board or the transformer.

I have hot tub control by Square D QO260GFI. The curcuit has tripped to off position and when I try to flip it to on position it just stays in nutral.

Hi!!

The breaker may be defective is not rated for the load been used or one of the devices the breaker is controlling is either defective and is drawing too much current.

try disconnecting the devices ie: pump motor or heather. one at the time, this is to find out if they work ok by themselves, test one by one. If the pump do not want to start up, it may be the start capacitor. If both devices trip the breaker, Replace breaker.

Good Luck!! Don't forget to rate this post!!

My hot tub keeps tripping the breaker and will only stay on for a short period of time before tripping the breaker. What can I do?

Check for a water leak in the electrical areas of your spa... specifically look closely around the heater terminals, look for wet and corroded connections... If this spa is wired to a plug-in outlet, look at the GFCI plug assembly as well... You can also try disconnecting the blower, pump, heater, etc, from the control pack (one at a time) to determine which item is causing the tripping.

gfci's are designed to trip if they receive voltage on there ground/neutral side, therefore my vote is for Smithbrother I would say there is probably a partial short somewhere in you system.

You are exatly right. It's really not that uncommon for Older models to have faulty motherboards. Once you replace that, it should be working new.
