Question about Panasonic Viera TC-P50U2 50" Plasma TV

1 Answer

After a nearby lightning strike, my Panasonic TC-P50U2 only displays a black screen with no sound no matter what input is selected. The menus and input selection work fine, but none of the signals from my Cable box, Blu-Ray, Roku, etc. are getting through. Which board is the likely culprit?

I have discovered that component video inputs still work. I have ordered a replacement Panasonic TXN/A1LRUUS A Board, and will try replacing that.

Problem solved. I had to have my old A board repaired, as the replacement I ordered had different ribbon connectors from the original.

Most likely your A board, which is the main circuit board. Best to call a technician for that. This may help.

During a lightning storm my TV went off and won't come back on.

It's called a "power surge," and the only way you can prevent a power surge from destroying a television completely is to use a SURGE SUPPRESSOR, and make sure that the grounding for your electrical system is optimal (meaning at least THREE TRUE GROUND POINTS, usually GROUNDING ROD, GROUND MESH, and PLUMBING GROUND). Consult a qualified electrician.
Sorry for your loss!

Try disconnecting all of your HDMI cables and plugging the power cord of the TV into another wall outlet. If this resolves the issue, you may have had a small power surge from either your wall outlet or one of your source devices. It is recommended to connect your TV to a surge protector if you haven't done so already.

Lightning hit nearby now my Panasonic tc-l3232c has sound but no picture what could be the problem?

Two issues come to mind on LCD/LED TVs with a blank screen. First and foremost, unplug it from the power source for a few minutes, then plug it back in and power on to see if your problem has gone away. If not, then the easiest way to diagnose the problem is to power on your TV in a pitch black room (or drape a thick blanket over it and peek underneath at the screen while it's on)... we want to see if the backlights are working or not. If the screen looks like it's 'lit up' with a dark gray tint to it, then we have backlight and there is another problem. If no backlight, then your set has a bad backlight inverter. In either case, this will require parts replacement. Panasonic is very tight with who they will sell their parts to, unlike other manufacturers and usually require authorization from a technician before selling them.

The wether does have something to do with it. After a lightning storm humidity is a problem. the humidity and heat can make the screen lighter, kind of grey. After the wether clears up it will take an hour to regain full color. Also it could be if it was charging while the storm happened it could have blown a fuse and messed up you screen colors
Also try to gain color by

Killed by lightning, have power, no picture...

The warranty does not cover lightning, check if your insurance covers it.
A lightning strike on such panel ( HDMI ) is very difficult to repair and if not impossible. The HDMI connector is hooked to the ground of the TV set so everything could be damaged.
My advice is not to repair.
