1) Motherboards are rated by size, and shape, by a Form Factor.

Common Form Factor for motherboards is ATX.
ATX form factor is 12 Inches by 9.6 Inches, or 305mm by 244mm.
(9.6 Inches is about 9 and 9/16ths Inches. -> .625 is 9/16ths of an Inch)

Next in line for common motherboard Form Factors, is the Micro-ATX form factor. 9.6 Inches by 9.6 Inches. (244mm by 244mm)

Using these variables, the next factor that needs to be checked, is if the motherboard has a Socket T processor socket.
Also known as the LGA 775 processor(CPU) socket.

Now you need to find a motherboard, that has a motherboard chipset, that will support the Intel Core2 Quad Q6700.

[FixYa has just undergone site changes. I am not able to post a link, as a direct link; at the moment.
I'll have to ask you to copy the URL (Link), paste it in your address bar (http://), and press the Enter key ]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motherboard_form_factor

The following is a list of Intel motherboard chipsets, that support an Intel Core2 Quad Q6700,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_chipsets#Core_2_chipsets

Start with the Intel 975X chipset. Scroll down through the various chipsets, and see which ones support Intel Quad Core processors (CPU's)

The following is a list of Nvidia chipsets, that support the Intel Core2 Quad Q6700,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Nvidia_chipsets#For_Intel_processors_3

Start with the 700 series, go to the 900 series.

The following is a list of ATI chipsets, that support the Intel Core2 Quad Q6700,

I wouldn't use a motherboard with a VIA chipset. Just my personal opinion.

You also need to find a motherboard, that will use the current Ram Memory you have. Unless you wish to move up to DDR3 Sdram ram memory, and are not currently using it now.

One example,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1853614&CatId=4658

Using DDR2 Sdram ram memory? Then this is one example,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157337

[Just in case; How to Copy and Paste:

Let's use the last link as an example,
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157337

Put your mouse cursor on the h, of the http://
Press, and hold the left mouse button down. Slide your mouse across, so the mouse cursor goes across the link. (The link is a URL)

The link is now highlighted in Blue. Hold the CTRL key down, and tap once on the c key. (Small case -> c )
Put your mouse cursor in your address bar. (Starts with http:// at the top of your page)
Press the v key. (Paste key)
Now press the Enter key ]

For additional questions please post in a Comment.
(Unless that is scr-ewed up too, lol!)

SOURCE: Will this CPU be compatible with this MOBO?

Okay your Processor is not supported by your System Board. I will take some time and look to see what would be a good upgrade, but it may take a few days.

DG965LVG1 Intel Motherboard - is it compatible with: Intel Core Duo Quad Q6700 Processor It has all the compatible specs Thank You

According to the specs this MB has the P965 chipset.
Intel's compatibility site states that the processor you want to use is compatible with the MB. It requires, however, a minimum BIOS version of 1698.

Here is a link to the BIOS download for this board. Version 1761 is the latest version, but you can select 1698 if you wish.

Can i up grade my single core cpu pen4 550 3,4GHz to a Quad core or dual core either one would help

Depends on the socket type.. Socket 423 and 478 do not support core duo or quad core processor types. However, if you have LGA 775 (aka socket T) your motherboard will support the following:
Intel Pentium 4 (2.60 - 3.80 GHz)
Intel Celeron D (2.53 - 3.60 GHz )
Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition (3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Intel Pentium D (2.66 - 3.60 GHz)
Pentium Extreme Edition (3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Pentium Dual-Core (1.40 - 3.33 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Duo (1.60 - 3.33 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Extreme (2.66 - 3.20 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Quad (2.33 - 3.00 GHz)
Intel Xeon (1.86-3.40 GHz)
Intel Celeron (1.60 - 2.40 GHz)

I cannot install a quad core 8400 2.66 mhz processor to my MSI 965 Neo F V2 motherboard

The following Core 2 Quad processors are supported by your board: (each with a special BIOS version)

SL9UM Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz
SLACR Q6600 @ 2.4
SLACQ Q6700 @ 2.66
SLAWE Q9300 @ 2.5
SLAWR Q9450 @ 2.66
SLAWQ Q9550 @ 2.83

Your 8400 is not on the CPU supported models list.

Won't boot to bios

I suppose you have reseted the BIOS and it didn't have any effect.
Check in this order (either using similar components or the ones you have in another pc): power source, memory sticks, processor. If all work then the motherboard is malfunctioning - check the capacitors for leaks and bulging and replace them if necessary; or just buy a new one.

Need a prossesor for motherboard

You can also use any other intel 775 socket processor as well. The dual cores are at the top of the list for performance that are compatible with that board, but if you're looking for a cheaper solution, I have that board with a 3GHz pentium 4 and it runs great. Here's a list of all the processors you can use.
Intel Pentium 4 (2.66 - 3.80 GHz)
Intel Celeron D (2.53 - 3.60 GHz )
Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition
(3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Intel Pentium D (2.66 - 3.60 GHz)
Intel Pentium Extreme Edition
(3.20 - 3.73 GHz)
Pentium Dual-Core (1.40 - 2.80 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Duo (1.60 - 3.33 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Extreme (2.66 - 3.20 GHz)
Intel Core 2 Quad (2.33 - 3.00 GHz)
Intel Xeon (1.86-3.40 GHz)
Intel 'Core' Celeron (1.60 - 2.40 GHz)

I have gigabyte series g31 m-es2L i want use memory pc 5300.... it's support with this mainboard ???? tx pls reply to : it_mid@yahoo.com

Hi,

First, clarification: the closest Gigabyte model is GA-G31M-ES2L... there is no "g31 m-es2L"

For this kind of question the easiest way to find the answer is from the manufacturer: Gigabyte

A quick search of their products results in:

http://www.giga-byte.com/Products/Motherboard/Products_Spec.aspx?ClassValue=Motherboard&ProductID=2889&ProductName=GA-G31M-ES2L

which states that up to 800mhz DDR2 (PC6400) is supported
( 667mhz (PC5300) is also supported. )

Generally with motherboards, if a higher speed of memory is supported, the lower speeds are also supported.

PS: mhz times 8 yields the PCxxxx number, PCxxxx divided by 8 yields the mhz number
