Question about Computers & Internet
Cannot find my dvd drive - i load a cd and nothing happens - can't find it in control panel - obviously can't use my recovery disc - catch 22!
If your DVD drive isn't showing in Windows or in the BIOS then either the motherboard has a damaged controller or the DVD drive is damaged.

the yellow exclamation mark, states that the device is not functioning correctly.
1:) go to the manufacturers website, and see if you can download a driver for this.
2:) try uninstalling the device, reboot and see if the device manager, finds new hardware, if so reinstall the device drivers.
3:) eject or remove the device, re-insert ( possible dirty-bad-loose Connection.

Tips for a great answer:
Jun 30, 2012 | HP Pavilion a1640n (RC663AA) PC Desktop
Click on Start, Run, and type regedit and press Enter
Click on the plus signs (+) next to the following folders
This folder is the DVD/CD-ROM Drive Class Description in the registry. Look for any of the following names in the right hand column.
If any of the above keys shown in step 4 are listed, right-click on them and choose Delete
After deleting the keys, close the registry editor
Reboot your computer
Open My Computer and check to see if your CD or DVD drives have returned. You may also want to open Device Manager and verify that the yellow exclamation and error code on the CD or DVD drive is gone.
hope this helps you
