Sound but no picture, Won't play certain dvds, freezes

This is the 2nd portable DVD player - the first was returned as it didn't work and neither does this one. It will only play certain types of movies - no Dreamworks or other normal brands. The screen goes balck but their is still sound if I can get it to read the disc at all. It is a piece of junk and many times I have almost launched it out my truck window - HELP!

Hi Mulvey....I see that you have discovered, grasped, and walked into the light regarding this, and all other posts for this 'ahem' brand. So why don't we just convert it to a Region Free player by following the steps below. Please keep in mind that this will not correct all of the problems with this 'ahem' brand, but it will certainly enable greater DVD compatibility. Turn on your player, and using your remote, (i'm assuming that THAT still works) enter the following commands: 1) Menu 2) 1 3) 9 4) Highlight "Region" 5) Enter 6) 0 7) Enter 8) C Please update your post regardless if your results were positive or negative, so we can either continue chipping away, or so that others with similar situations can glean their corrective measures from your post.....good luck my friend

Portable DVD palyer

Getting a signal from a DVD is a very complicated process, involving bouncing a laser beam off of the DVD, digital electronics, microcomputers, & sophisticated programming. In this tangle of signals & programming, it is not uncommon for a glitch to prevent the player from performing correctly. There is nothing wrong with your player, per se, except that it glitches on those particular discs. The solution is to simply not play those discs on that player. This phenomenon has happened with every optical storage device since the very first laser disc player. Some players simply don't like some discs. You can try a lens cleaner disc, but it is unlikely to make any difference. This problem is just an aspect of the technology, & is not going to get any worse.

We have a GO DVD+VCR model No. DV2140. We cannot

If you are trying to play blue ray on this unit you are out of luck no amount of firmware will make it play something it is not capable of doing.

Pe 705 is saying wrong region when yo try to play a dvd

The solution depends on where you bought your dvd player, certain dvds are released in north america or japan, etc, and they have different 'region codes' - meaning they can only be played by devices that have a matching code. To clarify, if you bought your dvd player in america, chances are you can only play dvds released in north america. For more information on region codes please go to

Tracking control

Sounds like the remote control isn't working.  Getting support for Durabrand portable DVD players is impossible.  The company that manufactured them for Wal Mart went out of business last November.  I've heard that Wal Mart is replacing them with a unit of equal or lesser value.
There's a blog on Rip Off about it.

DVD Player freezes on some commercially produced DVDs

The microprocessor or memory componets on the player isnt functioning asits supposed too. This is rather troubling and there isnt any easy fixes possible.. My suggestion is seeing as its new return it and get a replacement. Chances are it will fail very soon.
