Look under "printing Preferences" or "properties" (varies by printer model) when you select "print", and it should be under a button like "finishing", it's right there somewhere, just click a few 'buttons.
Also make sure you have the proper "DN" driver installed (the "D" stands for "duplex" (double-sided printing). If you have just installed the regular driver , the duplex feature may not be available

Loaded ribbon correctly according to Zebra S4M Quick Reference guide....but won't print anything on labels.

The ribbon has wax just on one side. So, if nothing prints on the label, first thing I'd check if the ribbon loaded with waxed side facing label.

Alarm light flashes, and I can't print anything. a box comes up on my computer screen that says Service Error cancel the printing and push OK on the printer. Nothing works!

First allow the printhead to cool down. Disconnect the USB cable, plug it back in. Turn the printer on and off and check for any obstructions or paper jams. (Look specifically along the print head path.)

This error usually indicates a problem with the paper path (or pick up) for Canon Printers. There is a guide that needs to be exactly positioned relative to the chassis and it can come loose. Servicing this is complicated - you need to remove the sides and the bottom of the printer then check the guide position. Finally you disconnect the Logic board and loosen mounting screws. Reset the guide and reassemble the printer. (You will need a detailed set of pictures for the positions and I don't have one for this printer.)

Canon recommends you send the unit for service if there first set of solutions do not work. (That's the check for obstructions section.)

I wish that I could be of more help.

I have a mfc 440cn and i can not print ANYTHING from my computer. Everything seems to be setup and hooked up right but nothing happens. I have windows xp. I can fax, scan, copy but it just will not print...

Have you rebooted your computer and restarted the printer? If so, try this solution, to begin with. See the home support page here, the printing troubleshooting site for your model here, or the install and setup guide here.
But I'm thinking this sounds like you need to clear the print queue in windows. Instructions for that here, and other troubleshooting guides for printing problems in xp here. If the printer appears to be functioning ok in the device manager, you can also try using the xp printer troubleshooter available from the Printers and Faxes section of the control panel to guide you through possible solutions.

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

User cannot print on both sides

The easiest solution to this is to ask the system admins at customer's place to install another driver for this printer - but with other settings - allowing duplex printing. The user can then chose the drivers he needs without having to open them for reconfiguration.

Printer prints blank on paper

Open the door half way through a page print and pull out toner cartridge. The page should be in the toner cartridige. If you can see the printed image then the fuser is the problem if you see nothing then the toner is bad or has a protective sleeve inside that needs to be pulled out from one of the ends.

Make sure the correct printer driver is installed.Check your user guide.Read the information below.

Printer Settings
You can use the printer properties window, which allows you to
access all of the printer options you need when using your
printer. When the printer properties are displayed, you can
review and change the settings needed for your print job.
Your printer properties window may differ, depending on your
operating system. This Software User’s Guide shows the
Properties window for Windows 98.
Your printer driver Properties window that appears in this User’s
Guide may differ depending on the printer in use.
If you access printer properties through the Printers folder, you
can view additional Windows-based tabs (refer to your

page 10).
• Most Windows applications will override settings you specify
in the printer driver. Change all print settings available in the
software application first, and change any remaining settings
using the printer driver.
• The settings you change remain in effect only while you are
using the current program. To make your changes
permanent, make them in the Printers folder.
• The following procedure is for Windows XP. For other
Windows OS, refer to the corresponding Windows User's
Guide or online help.
1. Click the Windows Start button.
2. Select Printers and Faxes.
3. Select your printer driver icon.
4. Right-click on the printer driver icon and select
Printing Preferences.
5. Change the settings on each tab, click OK.
