Invalid dim

I assume you're seeing YList instead of Freq on that line. In that case go up and re-select the histogram or one of the box plot types.

How should I set my ti 83 plus for my statistics course? I keep trying to sort L1 in ascending order and every time I get ERR: INVALID DIM 1: QUIT ...

If some of the lists are missing press the STAT button then select SetUpEditor and ENTER to restore all of them (without data, of course.)
If the statistical plots are turned OFF you can turn one of them back ON again. Press SHIFT Y1= to access STAT PLOTS. Press 4:Plots Off. A good habit to avoid problems. After you turn all plots OFF, you must turn one of them ON if you intend to draw statistical graphs. You can for example Turn Plot1 ON.
  1. To do so Press SHIFT Y1=, select say 1:Plot 1 ENTER.
  2. Highlight ON and press ENTER.
  3. Press DownArrow to move to line TYPE
  4. Then you can set the plot type. You have 6 choices. Use the left/Right arrows to select one of the 6. The selected plot type icon will remain highlighted when cursor is moved.
  5. Use DownArrow to move to XLIST line and select the x-values LIST. etc.
  6. When finished Press 2nd QUIT to exit the stat plts configuration settings.
One statistical value that may be of interest to you is the R, R^2 coefficients. To have it displayed (if the regression model has it), you must set DiagnosticsON.

Press SHIFT 0 to enter catalog. Press x^-1 key to jump to the first command that starts with D.
Scroll down to reach DiagnosticsON, highlight it and press ENTER then ENTER.

Use the STAT utility to enter your data in a list. (STAT>EDIT. If you have repeated elements you can use L2 as a frequency list. Once you finish entering the data press [2nd][QUIT]
In the main calculator screen, press [2nd][Y=┬Ęto enter the STAT PLOTS.
Press 4:PlotsOff to decativate all plots, then activate say Plot1.

1. Press 1:Plot1. Use arrow to highlight ON and press ENTER.
2. Use the DownArrow to move cursor to the line Type:
3. Select the plot type. (On this line only the right or left
arrows will allow you to select a type.)

Select the type and press ENTER.
4. Use DownArrow to move cursor to the XList line.
5. If the default (L1) suits your needs, press ENTER.
If not chage the list label to the correct one.

I am trying to get the TI 83 Plus to fit a sine graph to data that I have in Lists 1 and 2. I typed in the command SinReg L1, L2, Y1. I got an error message:\r\nERR: SINGULAR MAT. What is wrong? What do I...

I was having the same problem. Whenever I hit the graph button after a linear function was entered in Y1 I would get a screen that said "ERR: INVALID DIM 1:Quit"
I messed with a lot of settings but ended up returning settings back to default. The thing that fixed the calculator's ability to graph was UN-highlighting the Plot1, Plot2, and Plot3 words. If they are white on black they are highlighted. If the words are black then they are UN-highlighted.
To UN-highlight Plot1, Plot2, Plot3, do this: move the cursor up to the highlighted Plot1 and hit "enter." Notice the difference? Now do the same to the others and see if it fixes your problem like it fixed mine.
good luck.

I entered and calculated data in L1 now when I try to graph the data i get an err: invalid dim Here are the steps that I took: 2nd Stats Plots enter Plot1 On Type: Box Plot XList: L1 Freq:...

If you have a frequency list it must be entered in a statistical list, L2, L3, ...or L6.
If the frequency of all elements is 1 you do not need to enter the frequency in a list. When you go to draw the box plot, the frequency will be set to 1.

Hi, I can edit my table information in my calculator but am not able to graph from it and when i go to table it shows nothing.. what do i do?

Hi,
From what I understand you want to draw statistical graphs (scatter plot, box plot, etc.) If you do not see anything it may be due to the fact that the statistical plots are turned off.

Type in the data in lists L1 and L2, etc. Press [2nd][QUIT]

Press [2nd][Y=] (STAT PLOT] . Select [4:PlotsOff] [ENTER] .
Screen displays Done

Press [2nd][Y=] (STAT PLOT] . Select [1:Plot1 Off].
  1. The configuration screen for Plot1 opens with the cursor blinking ON.
  2. Press [ENTER] to turn Plot1 ON.
  3. Use Down Arrow to move cursor to second line Type:
  4. Select the type of statistical plot. Use the right arrow to move highlight on one of the 6 types.
  5. Select the type:scatter, Xline, histogram, box plot, and press [ENTER] to validate the choisce.
  6. Use down arrow to select the Xlist: use [2nd][1] to choose L1, etc. and press [ENTER]
  7. Select the Y-List (L2) and validate by pressing [ENTER]
  8. Select the data-point mark.
  9. Press [GRAPH].
If you do not see the graph or if it is not well centred, press [ZOOM][9:ZoomStat] to restrict the screen to the data entered.

Hope it helps.
Thank you for rating the solution.

When clicking on graph button screen shows invalid dim How do i fix this?

Your poor calculator just can't seem to fit the values you want onto your graph without risking unsightly stretch marks. To fix this, either press the "ZOOM" key and return to "ZStandard", or press "WINDOW" and define more acceptable (or possible) dimentions.

My graphing calculator reads err:invalid dim. How do I fix that?

A previously posted solution, taken from my Web page without permission, was removed by the admins at my request. The person who posted it should have asked first and should have credited me. Here is my solution:
==========================================
This message has several possible causes.
  • If you get this when making some kind of plot, you probably forgot that you have one of Plot1 Plot2 Plot3 turned on, and it refers to two lists that don't have the same length. The cure is to press [Y=] and turn off the unwanted plot.
  • If you’re actually doing something that needs lists, such as a regression, but your lists don’t have the same length, you get this message. Press [STAT] [1] and check your lists.
  • You also get this message when you give the TI-83 a list or matrix where it expected a variable or number, or vice versa. For instance, on the STAT PLOT screen, you may mean to press [2nd] [L1] but if you miss the [2nd] you actually type a Y. In the same way you might type a Z where you intend to type L2.
  • Karl Wein offers another possibility. You can create a list called L1, but that is not the same as the predefined list called L1 (note the small-capital L), and of course similarly for lists 2 through 6. If you accidentally delete a predefined list from the editor, make sure to bring it back with the SetUpEditor command.
In general, when you see this message you need to check carefully through what you’ve done to make sure that you used lists where you were supposed to, and nowhere else.

INVALID DIM

on a calc that's work properly, in the 'y=' screen, none of the 'Plot#' things are highlighted. try pressing 'y=', and if you have a 'Plot#" in a black box, go up to it and press enter to un-highlight it.
either it will work as soon as you press 'graph',or you have another problem
