SOURCE: Chainsaw won't start when warmed up

Coil is possible, change the plug (cheap insurance) and try it. If problem persists try this shortly after it quits.

You may need to use a jumper wire between the threaded part of the plug and the cooling fins. You do not have to bend up the electrode.

An index or business card is good for gap tool. Remove the plug, rotate until magnetic attraction pulls coil and card tight to flywheel, then tighten coil screws. Rotate flywheel until magnetic attraction eases, remove card, rotate a couple of revolutions and ensure nothing drags or contacts flywheel.

Homies are bad for clogged fuel vents too. When it begins to sputter roll it onto side and loosen fuel cap. If ti smooths out and runs properly it has a clogged vent. HTH

SOURCE: i have an old homelite

For the high and low speed jets turn all the way in and turn counter clockwise 1 1/4 turns to start with and continue a bit more until the saw runs a max speed(go by ear) and idling speed(idle down enough so chain does not spin while finger off triger). For the spark plug gap, go about 20 thousands of an inch. I hope this helps you out.

SOURCE: Need to find contact breaker

Hi marie hourig...

Set your gap between .18 and .20...if you do not have a feeler gauge to get the clearance right, then you can use a paper match book cover...it is approximatly the same thickness as you need.

How to test a coil in motorcycle

Hey Dan, There are a couple of resistance spec's..(they differ) ..We used to load check them (Yamaha dealership) with the "Electro-Tester".. this will simulate running conditions by loading the coil and making it jump a spark gap (adjustable with the tester).. we would wrap the coil with rags to get it hot and let it "run" for a while.. if it was bad, it would break down and not jump a 6MM gap.
Get your self a service manual..(Factory, Haynes. Clymer, Chilton) for the specs and take it to a dealer for further testing.

About .030". Remove the muffler if you can and look to see if the piston is all scored up. You may be using garbage gas or mix oil as well.

I need clearance specs for the coil and flywheel

This isn't the most technical sounding answer but it works and I've used it numerous times with no problems. To set the coil gap on small 2 cycle equipment , I use a 3" x 5" note card, tighten the bolts then manually turn the flywheel to make sure it doesn't rub.

I need a Service and Parts Maneul for a Homelite Super XL Automatic Model # 10045A, Serial # 301330028

Go to mymowerparts.com . They have a huge selection of parts lists available for free as pdf's. I have a 1983 Super 2, and I found one there. You'll have to scroll down a very long list, but stick with it. As for the service manual, good luck, I'm still looking for one myself . Surprisingly, your local library may be your best bet. Look under "chain saw repair" or "small engine repair". Also look for an owners manual, it has basic service information.
