Coil is possible, change the plug (cheap insurance) and try it. If problem persists try this shortly after it quits.

You may need to use a jumper wire between the threaded part of the plug and the cooling fins. You do not have to bend up the electrode.
An index or business card is good for gap tool. Remove the plug, rotate until magnetic attraction pulls coil and card tight to flywheel, then tighten coil screws. Rotate flywheel until magnetic attraction eases, remove card, rotate a couple of revolutions and ensure nothing drags or contacts flywheel.
Homies are bad for clogged fuel vents too. When it begins to sputter roll it onto side and loosen fuel cap. If ti smooths out and runs properly it has a clogged vent. HTH

SOURCE: i have an old homelite
For the high and low speed jets turn all the way in and turn counter clockwise 1 1/4 turns to start with and continue a bit more until the saw runs a max speed(go by ear) and idling speed(idle down enough so chain does not spin while finger off triger). For the spark plug gap, go about 20 thousands of an inch. I hope this helps you out.

Hi marie hourig...
Set your gap between .18 and .20...if you do not have a feeler gauge to get the clearance right, then you can use a paper match book cover...it is approximatly the same thickness as you need.
