When you upload the video you have two options to choose who can see the video. Public (where everyone can see it) or Private (where only you and those you choose can see it). I recommed uploading it and choosing the Private option, then once you're ok with the volume just go on the video options and choose Public.

Note You Tube can be very slow in uploading, since I know from my own experience that depending on the traffic at the time the server can be unstable. If you experience problems I would try again on different times of the day to upload.
When you watch the videos on the computer before you upload them to youtube are they of better resoloution? Are you uploading the videos from the computer or is this a camera that can upload them directly to youtube. It might be that youtube is reducing the resoloution of the videos you are uploading or your internet connection might be slow and that is causing the videos to be displayed in lower resoloution on your computer and someone with a faster internet speed might get a better picture.
Try uploading small sized video files or try uploading after converting the video in flash, this should prevent the time-outs from the place u are uploading the files to.u can even try sending them as *.swf.......sodeep
