Question about Brother MFC 7420 All-In-One Laser Printer

Lost connection from Mac G5 to Brother printer

I have an MFC-7420. The other day, I was printing and the current draw (apparently on the UPS) zapped my Mac and modem and shut them down. Since then, I haven't been able connect to printer. I've restarted it but to no avail. Any thoughts as to why the Mac isn't seeing the printer? Could a driver have been corrupted by the shutdown? Thx.

BTW, I am using OSX 10.5.6

Reinstalled the driver (Twain) per one suggestion and that didn't help. Still can't find the printer…

The Print Utility shows a print progress like 24% and then stops and the window displays:

"GenericClass: waiting for device" while it's trying to connect.

Could I go back into Time Machine and replace some folder or file and get back to the previous state?

The power cycling worked. I had turned off the switch earlier thinking I was doing essentially the same thing. Thanks much.

Turn The Printer Off And Then Hold Down Its Power Button For 15 Seconds This Should Print A Diagnostic Page And Confirm There Is Nothing Wrong With The Printer. If That Test Passes Then Try Another Usb Port On Your Computer. If This Still Fails Unplug The Printer Completely From Your Computer Uninstall The Hardware Again And Then Reinstall It And Once Done Installing The Hardware Reboot And Once You Reach Your Desktop Plug In The Printer Again.
I Hope This Helps
Sincerely,
Michael Scott

Sir,

  • Verify that the Brother machine is connected with a USB cable and is not on a network.

  • Verify the power cord and USB cable are securely connected.  If the USB cable is loose on either end, disconnect and reconnect the cable securely.  Test the machine by trying to print.  If the machine does not print, go to STEP3.

  • Cycle the power of the Brother machine by unplugging the power cord from power outlet, wait approximately one minute and plug back in.  Once the Brother machine displays the date and time after plugging it back in, test the machine by trying to print.  If the machine does not print, to Step 4.

  • Reboot the computer connect to the Brother machine and then try to print again.

  • If it is not worked let me know

    Thanks Good Luck

I would uninstall the printer/software, and reinstall then see if it recognizes the printer at all. Download the latest software from here:
    http://www.brother.com/E-ftp/softwin1.html
If you need further assistance please let me know.
    Thank you,

      Heres the software

      http://www.fixamacsoftware.com/software/...

you don't need to buy it, just download it and use the trial. Perform maintenance with it, as in reset the printing system. Its been a while since I used it I don't remember exactly what options there where.

Okay, I found a picture of it

      http://www.fixamacsoftware.com/software/...

Perform a reset on the printing system with the software and also try the verify and repair permissions.

if the problem is still not solved, you can uninstall the printer from the computer. The printer drivers page can be used to delete the drivers. you may also try the uninstall that came with the printer software when it was installed instead.

if you need the drivers and software for the printer again, they are available on this brother page

Works perfectly but will not print at all. Copies fine.

    Hello Michelle,

The fact the pages are only coming out blank when you print from the computer points to either the driver or the cable connection.

We’ll start by addressing the drivers.
    Let’s remove the printer first.

    1. Click on the apple icon in the top left.
    2. Select “system preferences”
    3. Select “print and fax”
    4. Highlight the MFC-7420 and press the “-“ icon.

Now we need to remove the driver package.

    1. Open your Macintosh HD (in the finder)
    2. Go to Libraryè printer
    3. Drag the brother folder into the trash bin.
    4. Empty the trash bin
NOTE: you may need to restart your computer before you can empty the trash bin
    5. Restart your computer after the trash bin has been emptied
NOTE: You have to restart even if you had to restart once before.

Now you will want to install new fresh drivers.
Please choose the link for your OS

    Mac 10.6 (snow leopard)
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/firmware_hardware/brotherprinterdriversformacosxv106.html

    Mac 10.5 (Leopard)
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/firmware_hardware/brotherprinterdriver11.html

For versions of Mac 10.4 or earlier, you do not need these drivers, they will be installed automatically.

Now you need to install the brother drivers for printing.
Use this link, choose your version of Mac then click on “search”
On the next page, you want to use the CUPS driver download.

Please come back and vote or leave some feedback, it will let me know whether it helped so I can improve and it will encourage me to keep on helping.

    Thanks,

    Scanning images onto mac

The scanner driver is separate from the printer driver. This link will take you to the downloads page of Brother-usa.com, where you select the machine family, then the specific model. Click the downloads link at the bottom, then, and you'll get to a page to select what you want and for what OS. Brother lists Mac os's from 9.x to 10.6.
Even if you have a driver on CD, the website usually has a newer version.

You need the brother scan software running on your computer before you try to scan unless you use one like picasso and initiate the scan from your computer.
