Question about Dell Vostro 1000 Notebook
I knew I would need to replace the MOBO and I did but since doing so the computer is still not working. I sent the computer back for testing and they assured me the MOBO was fine and it had to be other components that were failing. I did upgrade the RAM some time ago and put the old sticks in to see if the RAM was the problem and it did the same thing, nothing. When I push the power button in the 3 lights next to the button light up and then go off. The power on indicator lights up and stays on. I have tried powering on with just the power cord alone, battery alone and then both of the together. You hear the disk drive engage and then nothing, it does not try to boot. When this happened I pulled the HD, let it dry and them proceeded to download the files onto my desktop computer and this worked fine. Could the power board under the button be bad? Any information you can provide would be welcome at this point.
That would be my best guess. Even with a partially bad CPU, memory or HDD you should at least get to the BIOS screen.

Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.

SOURCE: Inspiron 1501 won't turn on
do you have the dell diagnostic CD??
if you have it may help you to figure what is wrong??
here is th link to the troubleshooting steps.
I suspect the hard drive may be on its way out. unfortunately you can't see the screen.

sounds to me like when u lost power it surged and froze your battery and now your battery has dead cells honestly the best thing to do is get a new battery

nope, it is your dc power regulator board. you will note this happens if the battery is in or out of the laptop. that is the key test. some regulators are on the main board and some are seperate for this reason. I think the vostro though is on the main board. A little board re-work will resolve this issue after replacing some components, but this is way beyond a home user's ability.. trust me on this. Sorry for the bad news. Thanks!

Testimonial: "Thanks for your answer. I guess I will check what the repair costs may be, and if too much, just get a new machine."
Try to do this: (Draining flea power)
1. Unplug the ac adapter (if connected)
2. Remove the battery
3. Press and hold the power button for at least 10sec.
4. Put back the battery and ac adapter
5. Turn it on
- check if you can now boot to windows, if not there could be a hardware problem and next step would be running some diagnostic test on the computer for hardware problem.

There are two common causes for this and both relate to the power supply.
First is that the connector on the main board is loose or has a bad connection
If you are proficient with a soldering iron this is an easy fix for approx $10
They have some very good step by step guides for replacing power sockets.
It could also be a dying power supply which is the second most common cause.
Replacements are easy to obtain and cost between $20 to $60.
If it is the PSU either get an original replacement (EBAY is best bet) or get one of the many multi laptop PSU's available but if you get the latter please make sure it carries enough or preferably MORE amperage than you need.
The old supply will have the details of both the voltage and current on it and you need to match the voltage exactly and keep the same or better current rating eg 1000 Mw or 1A or whatever it says.
