I accidentally reversed polarity on the a/c adaptor on my A500 and now the adaptor does not work, batteries do work. How do I fix it? Reset with batteries out and pressing the power button did not work. Jim C.

Possible that the battery is bad or has been on shelf for a long time. If you can test the adaptor for the working voltage it can be confirmed if the charging voltage is good. Use a multimeter to check the voltage at the battery terminals. Also check the battery voltage before and after charge, if voltage is present at the terminals but there is no charging on the battery, then it is possible that the battery is defective and could have developed reverse polarity.
Well, first of all, get a new AC adaptor. Do your pics appear on the camera? If so, just get a separate card reader to download your pics to a folder you create on your desktop. This one is $13 at Walmart.
Since the A500 uses Alkaline AA or rechargeable AA sized batteries, you can purchase an aftermarket battery charger for between 8-15 dollars at the local electronics houses. You can also swap over and use AA alkalines without any issue.
I am not sure of my solution to this problem will work for you, but thought I would share it just in case.
I had the same problem with the adaptor ring which my husband said was due to it being a cheap plastic (or whatever it is made of) and after a great deal of use, the threads were stripped.
My first solution was to purchase a replacement from Fuji, which I did. However, that adaptor ring did the very same thing. After phoning Fuji once again to order a couple of extra adaptor rings, Fuji told me that they were on backorder and most likely would be discontinued. This was a couple of years ago. Since I use my camera quite a bit, my husband ended up getting some good super glue and carefully attached it to the camera for good which is great since I am usually using the telephoto or wide angle lens on the end of it.
Anyways, the glue has held it to the camera for over two years and I could not be happier! I hope this helps, but if not, good luck to you!
oh no maybe you used different adaptor some adaptor have reverse polarity. check the adaptor before plugging it..if you using variable voltage set to 3v then adjust also the polarity. the polarity should match the polarity of your camera.
The C 5050 is what I have. It uses 6.5 volts DC input not AC. The polarity is positive center, negative surround. I am not sure whethere your universal is delivering that. Are you sure. Can you measure same or have someone tap the output and check it out? Is the plug area contaminated in some way? Good luck.
